    Need some fixit help plz.

I have noticed what i think is an impending problem on my 2000 D2 TD5.

    pics enclosed.

right frpont is what I consider the rubber bushie thingee to look like.

the left front tho is looking decidedly worse for wear....

So, what are they called, what do they do, how much are they and what do I have to do to replace them.

What tools, special puller things needed/, or what socket sizes are needed.

Is this a DIY for a spanner handy guy?

    thnx
    Nick

steering knucle ball joints there called, ( or thats wat we call them) they are pressed in, so you will need a hydrolic press of sum sorts, we do them on the car but we have done them that meny times its not funny, geting everything off to get to them is easy,, its getting the ball joints out, an bak in agen, they are VERY tight

i dont think there that expensive,, not to shour, 100$ mark i think for landrover ones???

an since your there,, its worth doing the top balljoints to,, they dont go as often but since your theere,, mite as well,

can you buy the boot on it's own or do you have to replace the ball joint?

Whole ball joint to my knowledge and its one of the few things I would get LR to do as they are a bitch to hold in the press.

(certainly if you dont want to make up a jig anyway)

Its DIY if you have a 40t press. difficulty level is 4/5 partly because of brakes and steering involvment but also because of the pressing/torquing while working on a vehicle on stands.

the heat and hammer trick does work in a pinch for them.

    also..

no off blacktop for you till you fix it or you will get the joint contaminated/washed out and then it will bind up or grind out at a minimum this will cause the wheel to run off camber and increase wear.

at worst it will become dangerous.
