    CD Changer quick fix job

On our way to go camping at Easter, I managed to jam our CD changer while reloading it (about 20 mins into a 2 1/2 hour drive! yay!). The display showed an error code and the head unit would shut off whenever CD was selected. The changer would not eject the cartridge. Moral - don't try and load it while you're driving .

After hunting around online, it seemed like a jammed changer was a common problem for the Eurovox 1060 cd changer in my Disco II, and some online electronic repairers had the service job listed at $200.. yeouwch!

Took me about 30 mins to fix myself, and was pretty simple. Here's what I did.

    1. Removed plastic moulding from base of drivers seat, to access the 2 bolts securing the changer unit.
    2. Loosened bolts and the unit slid free towards the passenger side
    3. Disconnected multi-pin cable to head unit
    4. Remove bracket from changer (4 hex bolts)
    5. removed side panels, face, and top cover of unit (small jewellers phillips driver)
    6. now had easy view and access to changer, found that the latching mechanism hadn't engaged properly
    7. using a small L shaped allan key I was able to hook the changer and draw it carefully out (because it wasn't latched)
    8. reconnected to head unit and loaded it succesfully before reassembling

I possibly could have skipped disassembling the unit, and just tried pulling the cartridge out, but didn't want to force any of the internals, so I checked them out first.

    Works a treat!

While I was under the seats I hunted out a dirty contact, that was causing the SRS light in the dash to illuminate, another quick and cheap fix!

Just thought I'd post this in case it might help anyone with a similar problem..

    Cheers

    Wil

ahh those pesky contacts that cause your SRS light to come on....I wonder how many dis honest mechanics have charged an arm and a leg for a seat belt sensor thingy, instead of just checking the contacts....I know I got stung once............ then found an honest mechanic !!

Smile CD Changer Eurovox 1060 for D2

If your cassette jams in the CD stacker under the driver's seat in a D2 you might want to try the following fix...

Remove the cassette (you can gently prise it out with a small screwdriver... look down the 'channel' that guides the cassette... next to it is a metal tab... this is the ejector mechanism... use a flat screw driver to move it up and down...if it 'sticks' use some contact cleaner such as CRC NF... it doesn't leave a residue like WD40... when I did it I actually removed the whole box (held in a bracket by four 7mm bolts)... a pain of a job because you have very little room unless you can remove the front seat (which seems like a hassel in itself!!!)... my CD changer now works (it will eject the cassette right out of the box)... pity I didn't do it before a there-and-back Perth-Adelaide trip last week... nigs

when mine jammed, I gave it a little "percussive" encouragment with my palm to its head via the access under the front of the seat, and it coughed up. No worries

Nothing under my drivers seat... Tape only on povvo packs. This reminds me I must upgrade the head unit soon.

haa haa, your not the only one.

Mine was jammed from new (to me), and after struggling to pull out the whole unit with NO ROOM to move, I decided to use my brain and hit the button and lift the seat up for reinstallation - AMAZING, so much easier ......

It was ready to go to the 'fixing man' but though I'll try reconnecting.
Hey presto, the CD went back home, and bonus for me, 6 cd's about Jesus and his mates....... HaaHaaHaa.

Re installed - with the seat raised - and after a day or two it jammed again. Fun was wearing off, so a couple of sharp prods with my fingers and she's all good. Had to do it a few more times and has been great for ages.

It doesnt seem to like the CD changer cover slide across though - kept skipping and doing weird things. Since I stopped doing that, I havent had an issue.

    my 2cents worth,

    Darian
