Ferret - I didnt realise the D2a's was different - I have a good mate with one and will have to have a look. He too though bought, but has not yet fitted, the 4x4 intelligence recovery points because he was concerned by the factory one. Thanks for pointing out for the original poster and those reading this thread the difference between the two.

    Cheers

i did a few snatches off the standard item on my d2, the worst of which was sitting on the diffs and it took about 12 goes to get it to budge, and after that it was bent up. i use mine as a mount for my antenna bar. this is the rushed one i made up before a big group trip to levuka, i copied the 4x4 intelligence one in terms of where it mounts up, and it fits through the standard bumper with a very minor trim. its handled a few serious snatches so far and shows no sign of budging, only took about n hour to fabricate, hardest part was fitting it with the bar on.

    Hi Guys,

Correct me if I am wrong, but fitting upgraded recovery points to a D2 with the standard plastic bar is near impossible without doing some trimming to the plastic. Even just replacing the factory fitting. I have had a set of 4x4Int recovery points sitting at home for over a year now waiting til I get a bull bar. I think what also put me off was the 2" protective bar was mounted such that I could not easily bolt on the new recovery point. If someone knows solution I am keen to hear.

    Cheers

    Excatly,

Hence my question on the standard point. To fit aftermarket recovery points meant the factory front bar had to go, that is why I thought if I get the aftermarket recovery points I also need to budget for a bull bar.

You can get a heavy duty replacement that bolts where the standard recovery point is, it is basicly and beefed up standard recovery point.

Bruce Davis at Annangrove sells them.

Beat me to it Redback!...Bruce's Disco was in a mag a while back and there was mention of the upgrading of the factory point. From what I understood he modified the original and made it near indestructable.

It was a couple of years ago when he had just finished building the first one for testing that I spoke to him about it, it has some pretty impressive load figures.
