The car looks good.

I would never get the RACQ or similar check a car like a landy.

They require a specialised mechanic who know what they are looking for.
In the early days I did similar here in SA and a note stated how the front locking hubs were missing, no 4wd lever inside and all sort of stuff that just suggests no prior knowledge of this marque.

Most dealers will let you take the car to a Land Rover specialist. If not, they could be hiding something.

Thats my 2c worth.
Take your time with the purchase, could save you big bucks in the future.

Nice looking vehicle none the less though.

I am in SA and can't help there.
Also when it comes to servicing, only do the Landy mech thing. Please trust us, it will save you in the long run. They are great cars but only when they benn looked after the way it was intended.

Do a search on here for mech in Brisbane, I am sure that question has been asked already.

there is a landy mechanic over near archerfield they do work for the army and stock heaps of parts.

they were on boundary road.

or on the Northside of Brisbane - Knights House of Rover.

Both have loads of knowledge and are both Land Rover lovers and owners. Do not charge over the top and are willing to help you out.

Do you also enjoy driving your V8? How do you find running it? My broher has a friend who owns one and it has oil leaks, he has had to replace the timing belt etc?

Love the V8. This is my fifth rover V8 and tried the TD5 once. Much prefer the low down torque of the V8 off road. Just drives effortlessly on tracks plus once addicted to the V8 sound, you can't go back. Fuel economy is just like any other addiction that people have ie smoking. You just pay for it.

Oil leaks are just a common thing with them. I have had mine for 8 months and it has done 185,000. I had to replace the shuttle valve in the ABS modulator as the 3 amigos lights were on. Apart from that, its been a trouble free ride - touch wood.

Was at Levuka last weekend and the Springs 4X4 park the weekend before and it went everywhere on standard springs and the Traction Control that other more modifieds went. I did have BFG AT's on though which helped.

You need to work out how many kms you do and see when you will get the premium paid between the TD5 and the V8 back. It was going to take me about 8 years to break even at the time petrol prices were at there highest last year. Plus I have heard the TD5 can be very expensive if its needs replacing.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. I have a Freelander 2 TD4. And yes it is a great car. But it is also 7 months old. BIG difference. I have also heard the old ones can can cost a lot to fix which is scary.

In regard to cost differences between the diesel and the V8, I plan to drive the V8 twice monthly on a Sunday to dog shows. If I bought a diesel, I wouldn't get the use out of it to warrant the expense in purchase.:)

Well today is the day I go to look at this car. I'm hopeful it is as good as it looks.:)
