Thread: Welcome to all D2 owners!

Hi Guys/gals,
I have ventured in to the disco 2 territory (my first Land Rover). I have purchased (sight unseen) a 2002 Disco TD5 complete with the 3 amigos.... but I got it at a fair price.
After getting the diagnostics done at a local mechanic, I have a total of 8 (eight) fault codes, scared the s**t out of me.... but it boils down to a FR sensor, a shuttle valve fault, a (historic) injector fault and a couple of Transmission faults.
I have posted a wanted add for a Disco V1 diagnostic module and am going to attempt the repairs myself (with a little help from my new forum friends).
I have perused the appropriate parts of the forum and have found very helpful info.
I hope to be able to provide feedback of my experiences with my on-going repairs to assist other newbys.

Had a '93 Defender for a good many 10s of 1000s km. Served us well until the rust and repairs were beyond my capability for change of interstate rego and she went away for reconstruction to someone much more enthusiastic and better equipped than myself. Loved the capability of the Defender but better half found it a bit uncomfortable for long trips. 1999 Rodeo has been good for us but with our 23' trailer sailer nearing 2000kg we need something more beefy for towing. Just got ourselves a 2002 Disco II TD5 Auto and the first 1000km from Sydney to Western Vic have been a delight. What a nice car. At 238,000km she seems in very nice nick. Hoping not too much to do for VicRoads RWC, apart from reline the handbrake shoes. Expecting to find a Gregory's to help with keeping her on the road. Doubtless I will be asking advice from you lot from time to time but I hope I will be able to contribute myself.
Somewhat disappointed that there is not a Landy dealership closer than Geelong (?) to Horsham. What happened to Hamilton? What happened to Bairnesdale? With Discovery 4 being such a brilliant Car Of The Year for so long where are the dealerships? Where do you lot in country Vic (Horsham is our local Big Smoke) source your parts and get serious jobs done?
Did not do a lot of research to buy this car. Chief reason was to upgrade towing ability. Secondly - just like LR. Am a bit disturbed that there seems to be a whole lot of mods worry attached to towing decent loads. Our Rodeo just did it - no worries, no mods, no overheating....... Hoping we have not made a mistake!

Apparently all it needs engine-wise is a couple of oxygen sensors, which apparently explains why it's running rather rich at present. They also serviced the tranny, which I wasn't expecting, but that's fine as that was on the list anyway.

Apparently everything else looks pretty good, so that's a relief.

I was told by the seller that the A/C condenser was faulty and they'd have to pull the whole dash to replace it...... maybe that's why it was such a steal? Anyway, took it to a mate of a mate who is a bloody good auto fridgy and he just re-gassed it & added some dye. $100 and working like a beauty. As he said, there might be a leak, but the dye will show where it is if that's the case. The caps were missing where he connected the pipes for his gauges and he said this could have allowed the gas to escape. Apparently they don't just keep dust out.....

Regulators & motors for the front windows are on their way, so all in all, we're looking pretty good. Hopefully the oxygen sensors will fix the richness issue and I can see how she REALLY drives!

I have just spent $1800 on a new fuel pump and gaskets and rocket cover. Then driving it out of the garage it konked out again and will cost me another $1500 on top of the 1800 already spent. Fuel block and belts and some more gaskets LOL

Just purchased my first LR, a D2a. I have always loved cars slightly away from the norm and not scared of a little work as required. The D2a is an interstate car so purchased sight unseen but checked by a reputable LR mechanic so hopefully a great car. When the car arrives will post pics.

Love the forum and LR community and all the helpful advice that is always freely given.

First trip planned is Cania Gorge and Kroombit tops only a week after it arrives so hopefully find nothing wrong before hand.

Congrats Gazman, we have had ours since new in 2003 and she has been great, accept for last week the oil pump bolt let goes and she goes in to the mechanic today for a engine . How uncanny 2 weeks after we got DD our first trip with new car and caravan was Cania Gorge and had a very good time back then, have a great and safe first trip
