Thread: Urgent help required....

Not familiar with the D2, but the hose from the radiator to the coolant tank will be OK any type of tube as long as it

1. Will withstand the radiator pressure

2. Will stand the temperature

3. Is sufficiently flexible (and will remain that way - which the original apparently did not!)

Any automotive place (which should be open today) will sell you a suitable hose provided you explain what it is for, and preferably take the original.

If you are lucky it is just the tube that has failed.
If you are unlucky the nipple on the radiator will break off, requiring a new radiator.

So slice it through VERY carefully with a Stanley Knife before trying to remove it from the rad.

Ok, it would appear that it is not a costly part to replace. Next question is does anyone know who is open today in WA, ie repco's etc. My home phone's battery has gone flat. i have put a temp fix to get to a shop, but it won't last idefinitely.

The small section of larger rubber hose at the radiator end, does this need replacing aswell, or leave it on?

You won't need a new radiator, don't let people scare you.
That is a common problem, that hose becomes brittle when it gets older and eventually fails. I just went to Supercheap and bought some soft coolant hose, and ran it back to the expansion tank. Can't remember the diameter, but you just run the hose under that plastic cover over the radiator. Get some clamps while your there, because once it is fixed, it wont fail again.

The genuine part from LR is an assembly consisting of a moulded (profiled) plastic hose, and a short pieces of rubber hose at each end held on with hose clamps, cost aronnd $40 from LR dealer. I replaced mine last year after medium thumb pressure on it was enough to crack the old one.

A few on AULRO I understand replace theirs with simple rubber hose (water hose) for the whole length, which I reckon is definately worth doing or at a minimum carry some spare rubber hose and clamps as a back up.

I replaced mine with fuel line hose that has the same inner diameter, cheaper than the original stuff and more flexable.

The broken hose, did'nt take much, and you can see the temp patch to get me to the parts shop. It let go just before home, dumping coolant eveywhere. no temp rise tho.



The nozel at the radiator. After the various warnings i was very nervous removing the hose. I figured that cutting was going to put as much pressure on it as a little twist, and that if it was that brittle it would break regardless. As it happens my radiator was replaced no more than a year ago, so once the hose let go its grip, it came off easily.

Purchased some 3/8 heater hose, two clips and voila..



and at the tank end.



Pretty sure this hose won't break next time i breath on it.
