    why so much diesel

my D2 seems to me to be using way too much fuel. It is TD5 with 3" exhaust, EGR removed, Tombie ECU Upgrade for towing, snorkel with forward facing intake, last fillup i only got just over 500klms out of the tank towing a small poptop caravan that weighs less than 1200kgs, regularly get less than 600klms out of a tank, that seems way too high for me. am i expecting too much ?

Does sound a bit high. I get around 12l / 100km, giving me around 850km from a tank.

Have a look at the obvious things first, filters (air & fuel) and for leaks.

I am sure someone else will be along shortly to give you some ideas as to other things to look at.

Is that 850km around town or highway cycle???? I'm also interested in the outcome of this.

Most of my driving is around town. Still need to go on a long trip & use a couple of tanks to see what true highway figures are.

Hi - try doing a search on MAF and Fuel and High (or similar permutations). THere are a few threads already that might be useful, like this one: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...onomy-bad.html

Correct my math, but if you get 12l/100km and get 850km, then doesnt that mean you have a 102L tank? You must be getting better than 12l/100km.

My empty gauge must be bung...it comes on around the 650km mark and I usually only get around 70-75L into it. I get between 11.3-11.8 around town most often.

Not likely to make a huge difference... but what size tires are you running?

But if your running bigger tires.. with no calibration it can have a fair effect. 265/75 16 instead of the standard 235/70/16 is a 10% bigger circumference...

If your running standard tire sizes.. I agree with the others, something isn't right. I didn't think a crook MAF on the diesel made a huge fuel difference... well not like on the V8 anyway.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most

2015 TDV6 D4.... the latest project... Llams, Traxide, Icom 455, Tuffant Kimberleys and Mofos.... so far.
2012 SDV6 SE D4 with some stuff... gone...
    2003 D2a TD5...gone...
    2000 D2 V8...gone...

just two things; One more power must mean more fuel has to be burnt. so if you up grade the power and drive the same way, it should use more fuel. Two, what do you rev the motor to when changing up through the gears ?
I find 2400rpm get me best economy.
Small story, I drive Volvos towing B-doubles, with an all up weight usually about 45tons. Driving a new 520 euro5 auto it gets 48 litres/100ks (Sydney to Canberra) driving an older 500 auto in manual (me choosing the change points) I noticed I was getting 56lrs/100ks (changing at 1700rpm) But by changing at 1600rpm brought it back to 52 ltrs/100ks. The larger 520 has a "intelligent" transmission and the engine can reconfigure it self. It also changes at 1600rpm and can skip gears.
So maybe just try a few less revs and see how it go's.

Have never towed anything,so dont know what k's you should be getting, search is your friend,as there is heaps of info on this on this site.
The other thing is "TANKFUL" means bugga all.Do you fill up at 70l or at 85l.This makes a masive difference to your figures.

Unloaded i recon you should get around 11 to 12.5l/100 around town, around 9.5 to 10.5 on a good run, depending on driving style.
