The crankshaft position sensor is in the same loom as the injectors so its possible. Almost the 1st check when TD5 is malfunctioning is to check for oil at the connector at the front of the head.
Gday All,was just wondering if anyone has had this problem.Car ran fine then go to start and it only just winds over,do the normal checks then remove and overhaul starter, winds alot faster but still wont fire.Has new filter etc no lights on dash that shouldnt be there. Can hear fuel pump when ignition on.Car at fuel injection specialist now but just wondering if oil in loom could cause this?
Any other gremlins in the fuel system that people know of would be great.
Thanks and cheers Ean

it can also be caused by a fault with the security system.

Check the battery voltage is up over 11V (11.5V even) before trying to start and that the terminals are in good nick. Also check your earth and positive feeds from the battery terminate OK.
Try pushing the cut out switch on the passenger's side fire wall, it can stick.
When a new filter was put in, did you prime the system? Instructions are in the owners manual (for running out of fuel). Basically turn ignition to run, hold accelerator to floor for 20 seconds, turn off, repeat half a dozen times. Then try and start.
As for oil in harness, if there's nothing visible at the plug, take off the rocker cover and remove and clean the harness if unsure. But I would expect a miss-fire or running rough, not a fail to start.

Thanks for the reply's, It happened after the car had already been driven about 500ks with the new fuel filter so sure its not that but tried new filter anyway. Its not the battery or the voltage as I tried 3 different batteries plus a jump start so ruled that out.Overhauled the starter with new brushes and solenoid.Didnt know about the reset switch but as the car is now at the fuel injection mob will wait until they open and check that.Only other thing was a TRS upgrade ECU about 6mths ago so unless that has failed..Time to buy nanocom.
Thanks again,Cheers Ean
Just a follow up to what the problem was...A completely seized idler pulley. The car had been serviced 3oooks before and pulley's checked and new harmonic balancer and belt. The pulley must've been seized for a fair time as it melted the center of the pulley and started to melt the new belt.Total all up.. recon starter..Fuel injection test.new idler pulley..new belt.
May help someone who has similar starting problem in future. Will post pics of pulley when I work out how.
Cheers Ean
Glad it wasn't too big a job to rectify, I will add here that I have had a 300Tdi 'seize' but was found to have a seized alternator. Stopped the engine DEAD.
A good reminder to remove the serpentine belt and check the ability to crank over without the ancilliaries attached.
