    Replacing TD5 coolant pump.

    Hi all,

In the middle of changing my water pump on my TD5 Discovery.
I have an extra seal included with the new pump- (ERR6711 TD5 COOLANT PUMP SIDE SEAL) but i cannot see where this one goes.
    Could anyone advise please.

    Cheers Garry

My rave is showing 3 oring type seals

2 between the rotor housing and its recess and 1 between the coverplate and the rotor housing.

    Thanks for the reply.
Its all back together again.A real pain in the ... to do.
I think the extra seal goes between the engine and the water pump bracket.
Will keep an for leaks over the next few days.

    Thanks Sparks.

I removed my coolant pump this morning to replace it and was tearing my hair out wondering why I had an extra seal (ER6711) among my spare parts.

Had no idea what it was for and the Landy shops were shut by then so I went onto the 'net and saw your post. Your advice prompted me to remove the pump bracket from the motor and replace the remaining seal.

It didn't take too long to remove the bracket and replace the seal as most of the awkward bits of hardware had already been removed to get to the pump.

    Thanks again, Dan

ERR6711 is the special seal that goes into the bracket for the power steering pump and water pump , it is often neglected when the water pump is fitted. Maybe that's why people claim they put in new pumps and have coolant leaks???

If the ERR6711 seal has gone you get a leak from between the block and back of the power steering bracket. When it happened on mine the coolant reside was at the bottom of the bracket and along the block flange and sump. A failed water pump usually leaks from a drain hole on the underside of the bracket which you can spot by the trail of coolant down the bracket.

Its worth doing both the seal and the pump at the same time.

    cheers

Certainly is best to replace it when the pump is done, why take it all apart AGAIN....

I keep a few on the shelf now.

I used the justinc™ method to do the pump and gasket.

You remove the ps bracket leaving the pump in place. If you do it this way you don't have to touch the centrifugal filter or turbo. You can remove and refit the pump with the bracket out of the car.
