Ideas on minor starting problem TD5 D2?

    Hello all

This has happened to me twice under the same circumstances nearly 12 months apart. With the fuel gauge on empty I refill to the top at the servo and then when going to start, starter turns over and everything looks ok however it will not start, push off the the side and after a series of ideas, priming sequence included, with the use of the throttle, the car starts to turn over much in the same way as recovering from a flooded engine, a little firing followed by more and more until fixed.

So exactly the same servo spot, same empty the same thing happens again. Fortunately I know how to push it off to that special spot downhill.

All mechanicals working fine so I can only assume some sort of pressure change from empty to full (all I can think of but does not make sense either)

Has anyone experienced this trait of is it just a landrover thing.

    Thanks in advance

    Geoff

Was it by chance the same servo at the same pump???
Not on an incline of sorts? Are we talking like real empty?
Sounds like your picking up a gut full of air then priming and starting.
No other problems in between these 2 events 12 months apart?
    Cheers Lionel

Yes it was the same servo and pump,

Empty as in the bottom line of the needle was in line with the bottom of the red section and took 84.5 litres.

very slight incline down to the right.

So you drive in, okay and first turn of the key and nothing, not even a single fire on a cylinder.

That's what I was thinking that if air got in, it would both reduce pressure given not even an attempt to start.

What happens if you fill before the low fuel warning?

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? You could have gunk in the bottom of the tank.

If I don't let it get to the low warning its never a problem and fuel filter changed in between the first time and now this time just to make sure. I'm not overly worried about once a year problem and I never usually run to this low at all.

I guess I just wanted to know why and if others experienced this type of starting.
