    Hi All - First Post

Just a short note to say hi.
Bought our first Land Rover a few weeks ago; S2 Disco V8.
Apart from being partly dismantled (to replace a seized water pump) the old girl looked pretty good. The dash was lit up like a Christmas tree because the serpentine belt was disconnected and nothing was working when I ran the motor.
Naturally, the price was right and so I took the risk of not driving her. Replaced the water pump, started up the motor, all the lights go out except . . .
Since then I've come to learn and dread the name "the three amigos".
The problem of course is that the car is unregistered so I can't drive her anywhere. This means I'm doing all the simple things I can do before having to trailer her around to get sorted, bleed brakes, check electrics, etc.
There's so much help in the threads, I don't know where you guys get the time to devote to the cause.
    Anyway, bye for now.
    George.

    Welcome George!

Where are you located? You can put this in your profile "Location".

Can't help with a V8, but the three amigos might be a faulty earth or a crook wheel sensor. Check all the sensors are clean and the cables aren't suspect/kinked. The other thing is this is something that can log as a permanent fault and need clearing by computer.

wow,, the price would have to be *REALLY* good to buy an unregistered, undriveable, in parts D2.

I reckon the first thing to do about the 3 Amigoes is a powerbleed of the system.

after that, read everything in The Good Oil,,
do some simple tests at home and then get fault cleared ONCE.(and only if the D2 Ctrl/Alt/delete doesnt clear it,,)

You could run the ABS pump for a few 30 second bursts to give the ABS modulator shuttle valves and their switches a good workout. This can be done by removing the relay for the ABS pump (in the under bonnet fuse box) and bridging the 2 large terminal connectors with a wire. Have the ignition OFF when doing this. The brakes can also be bled using this procedure.

    Thanks all for your responses,
Now tried running the pump and doing a power bleed before alt/ctrl/del but to no avail. I've done the electrical check as per the service bulletin, checked the wheel sensors visually and made sure the connectors were OK. I've fixed all the electrical problems, blown fuses and tail lights, etc.
Looks like it's not going to be anything simple.
I see a trip to a LR specialist in my future to get the codes read.
Good news is that even if I need a new modulator, it is still a very cheap D2.
