best uhf locations or dash pods available

I recently had this problem as there really isn't alot of room to mount a full-size unit and keep a slick look to everything.
dash pods are ok, but can also look a bit "add-on'' if you know what i mean.
my advice would be to flog the sundowner unit and get yourself a remote - head unit GME / Uniden etc.
I mounted the main unit on the steel support under the passenger side airbag (remove glovebox and look up - you'll see it) It doesn't interfere with the glovebox and can still be heard easily.
I then mounted the head unit on the centre consol directly infront of the transfer case lever (screwed directly thru the 4WD activation plaque) and an 8mm hole for the wire to go through. (covered when the head units in place). I mounted the microphone onto the passenger side ashtray, that way if you want to remove it later all you may need is a centre console and an ashtray...

Just an opinion, but i hope it helps....:)

I have my GME 3440 mounted inside the panel under the steering wheel and the handset comes out of a spare button on the dash.

I'm not really impressed where I stuck my radio, but I do like how the external speaker fits into the money tray space with its original mount, No need for the tray I have no money.

Hi bronson. I just slipped my 3220 into the overhead map pocket. As you can see I just ran the wires up the A pillar. They are exposed at the moment as I put it there to see how it went before cutting the head lining to hide them. It works great. cheers JP

JP - there's no need to cut the head lining. If you remove the map pocket, you'll see at least one hole in the head lining large enough to thread your wiring through, and you can then run the wires quite easily across to the top of the A pillar lining out of sight - I've got the microphone for my hands free car kit wired up through there.

I bought one with a removable face, and attached it under the drinks holder in from of the range selector. And I put the box under the steering wheel compartment and screwed it to the strong dash frame, it won't move in a 100 years. The speaker is in the box, but you can still hear someone speaking clearly. The mic is a bit annoying as it is just laying on the center console most of the time, adding to clutter, i still have to fit the clip for it.

Attach it to the back of the console smally - that way your cup holders still work as normal.

I've got mine set up the same, and have attached the microphone clip to the front of the little money drawer (there's never any money in there, but can still use it if I want to).

This was my solution for a larger radio, no new holes required, done using exsiting . Down side to this is the lid on centre consul only opens 90 deg rendering cup holders unusable.
