harlie, thanks for pointing that out and certainly something i am considering, hence why i only have 245/70 on it now. think even 245/75 are over the limit if it came down to the crunch.
appreciate the responses from others and think it may just go 245/75 as it is a daily driver and the wifey still likes to get into some carparks.....
fyi ringing around yesterday bfg km2 235/85 $305ea, 245/75 $332ea :eek: maxxis 245/75 $250ea, did not ask for the 235/85

Unless you are doing regular harder trips I wouldnt go for 265/75s. I run two sets of tyres so I can have the both of both worlds.
But if your relying on a single set, the 245/75 size will be a good compromise.

Agreed, I am running Maxxis Bighorn's and did not want to compromise the tarmac driving so have 245/75 and the car in general handles much better than the 265's, it's just finding what is right for your own needs. Aside from the increased noise I am happy that I went 245 and not 265.Quote:

Ask your insurance co if they would like a reason not to pay after a big accident … Ask the coroner if he would like to make recommendations after a fatality – this is why a lot of tyre retailers will not fit the sizes that we are talking about - the larger the diameter of the tyre the less affective the brakes are - and your kidding if you think the accident investigation team is silly enough not to notice....
Only reason I think of this issue is because one of my Brother-In-Laws works for one of Aus largest insurance companies in a team that’s sole purpose is to find evidence that will allow the company to deny the claim. And let me assure you that I am absolutely gob-smacked with what they do – best one is Jet skis that are damaged during road transport. "Can we inspect the securing device that was fitted on the rear of the jet ski when it came off the trailer?" "What – you didn’t have one – I’m sorry too bad". And yes he mentions tyres, too big, too small & too wide...

oh, and yorkie, the tyres on my D2..255 55 18's only measure 29 and a bit inches! they look huge :)
so 265 70 18's for me...

My D2a Td5 Classic Country came standard with 255/65 x 16's (on 8" alloy rims) ... previous owner put on a set of Cooper ST 255/70's ... almost 4% oversize ... so far after several thousand k's I think they are a pretty good match for the vehicle ... no clearance issues, rides OK on the tarmac without excessive noise, off-road so far so good ... but last price check (local at Jax) was $355ea fitted and balanced :eek: ... jeeeezuz!!
3 x of them have heaps of life left ... front LH is feathered off on the outer edge ... seems a wheel alignment would have been a good idea :angel:
Still, they've done 55k since fitting, and probably have another 20-30k left in them (except the feathered one).
Just my 2 bobs worth. On my 01 D2 manual with 2" OME lift, I have been running 245/70/16 Pirelli Scorpion AT's. These are slightly taller than standard 235/70's and put my speedo out about 4 km/hr. I recently put on a set of 265/75/16 Cooper ST's the differences I encountered were as follows:
My reccommendation would be, as already mentioned, the 245/75/16's as a single set but I think 2 sets is the way to go and I am in the market for a 2nd set of rims preferrably steel for offroading. My reason for this is that my Disco is my daily drive and average 450km per week predominantly city driving and the noise of the ST's gets a bit much. But hey they only cost me $600 on EvilBay for a set of 5. :)
- Speedo out by +9%, 9km/hr at 100km/hr but use my GPS for accurate speed reading,
- Improved fuel economy about .5km per litre due to the motor reving lower
- Cant drive up the SE freeway in 5th due to gearing
- On road ability difference not noticeable
- Offroad ability brilliant
- Modification to spare wheel carrier to suit larger tyre required
- Slightly harder to get into the car due to being almost an inch higher.(only cos I am only 175cm tall)
