Red Book would seem to suggest that the 2003 and 2004 models only came out in 4.0lt V8 engines in the petrol guzzlers.
Hi I am a first time viewer here as I am currently looking at buying a March 2004 Land Rover Discovery II V8. I would like to know if this is a 4.0L or the 4.6L. All the information I have found says the 2003-2004 only came with the 4.6L but the dealer says it is the 4.0L, is this possibly correct. I have used the search function and checked pretty much every possible post that may be related to my query.

Disco only ever made with the 4L not the 4.6.
The 3.9 is essentially a 4L with different injection.
Goes better and slightly more efficient.
Get it checked, they are prone for slipped liners, check cooling system, its the beginning of all evil.
Rest is pretty good, nicest model year IMO and V8's should be well priced as they do not hold resale due to fuel consumption. Expect around 17-22L/100
Good luck and welcome here.
The US spec 2002-3 Discos came with the 4.6 fitted from the P38 RR. Oz and the rest of the world had to settle for the 4.0 litre in the Disco 2/2A.
thanks for your help peeps I just wanted to be sure. I am currently waiting to get finance approved but quite excited. Mileage is a bit high but the car looks like it has had everything done to it.
If it passes then so be it.

Thanks Mark. It does have a good service record, not sure if it is with a specialist though but it looks like it has had no money spared on it, I can appreciate that goes for nothing some times`(I used to work for a major car dealer).
