Terry I don't think that I've heard a good thing about the ones in Canberra. I'd be heading to Sydney, I live in Orange and head to Sydney for servicing. My preference is Davis Performance Landys but there are quite a few in Sydney.
Hi everyone,
I'd appreciate some assistance if possible, I've finally decided on what model and roughly what year LR I will purchase after some soul searching. I've decided I'll get a fairly late model Disco 2, chances are that will happen this week all going well.
My question is, does anyone know of a good LR specialist near Goulburn?
The closest decent sized town would be Canberra which is 1 hour away or if there isn't anyone in Canberra then Western Sydney which is two hours away.
Any assiatnce would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Terry O'Neill

Terry,
There are many of us who are extremely happy with Canberra Motor Works in Mitchell (northern suburb of Canberra). CMW isn't the cheapest place in town, but in my experience, you get what you pay for. CMW is extremely honest and helpful and will often go way out of their way to help a customer. When my 7,000 km 4.6 failed, Ray gave me a loaner car, started WW3 with his supplier to get another brand new 4.6 free, fitted it and did the first service afterwards without a dollar changing hands, not even for oil etc. I didn't even have to ask. Give Ray Spence a call on Monday unless you have already decided to go to Sydney. 6241 8777.
Cheers,
Terry
I'd agree with comments about Ray Spence @ Canberra Motor Works, but do not leave it too long as he has the business for sale, as he wants to retire!

Thank you gentlemen,
I'd prefer to find someone in Canberra as a one hour drive is better then a two hour drive if the service is the same.
Mind you if the business is for sale then it will be a lucky dip regarding who buys it and if they are up to speed on LR's and are customer service orientated.
I'll give the gentleman mentioned a call and see how he is placed regarding some new ongoing business.
Otherwise it will have to be Sydney...

I've spoken to Ray at Canberra Motor Works as recommended and he comes across as a very friendly and professional individual which is a very good start to say the least as far as I'm concerned.
I told him he came recommended by members of this website to which he was quite thankfull. He told me he wouldn't retiring any time soon and that he will be around for a long time to come.
Again thanks to the members who recommended Ray I look forward to meeting him sometime soon.

For what's it worth. Took my Disco II in this morning to CMW and was given a loan car, as I needed to get to work. Coming from Sydney at the end of last year I know not many blokes in Sydney will do that without charging money for it.
Ray has more than 30 years experience and will pick up on something that needs fixing, saving you 100's later. I will definitely recommend him, if you don't mind driving down to our town, I could swear last time I looked it was classified as a city, Canberra.
Cheers,
Thanks Gemsbok I will be seeing Ray in the not to distant future no doubt.
To be frank I've been bitten by the Disco bug, I originally looked at buying a early model D3 but decided that I couldn't justify the amount of money as I didn't think a 05 model D3 was worth twice the amount of or even twice the vehicle of a good late model D2 having driven both.
Plus as I live on a farm now I wanted something that I wouldn't mind getting bashed around a bit and I considered a D2 would be a good compromise.
So off I went and I managed to find and purchase a good 03 V8 HSE that I'm really enjoying that much that I don't want to see it given to much of a hard time.
So tomorrow I'm off to look at a second highly modified 94 D1 that looks like it will easilly be able to handle all the more punishing aspects of going off road and if it gets the odd bump or scratch I won't mind to much.
So I've gone from thinking about buying my first all rounder Disco to now more then likely buying two very different Discovery's in less then a month. That being the case chances are Ray will get to know me quite well.
Again thank you to all the people on this website who have given me advice, it has been most helpful and is appreciated.
Cheers,
Terry
