Unfortunately they are made of gold, when supply is being stripped by demand they can charge what they like.

When I got mine last year it was $695 however they had risen to $950 in 6 months.

It is the best way to go though, although a mate has the AVM kit and that seems to be pretty good. I have heard of them failing but that might be also due to the way the vehicle is used. If you intend on drowning it in mud each weekend go for the factory kit, if you are more into touring and not mud runs, electric should be fine.

The fitting instructions are also on the Ashcroft site as well.

I have the electronic unit from AMV in Ringwood. Quite happy with it although the motor has been replaced once under warranty. I believe a loose relay may have fried the motor so technically not a mud/water ingress issue.

If I had the money I would definitely go the Ashcroft option. Something nice about having a near identical factory part and actual wire and levers to do stuff.

What happened to the mechanical unit AMV used to sell? I have one that I fitted about five years ago: just a simple T-handle on the floor pulling a cable attached to the CDL actuator. Apart from the ABS/TC issue when I forget to unlock it before turning the motor off, it's been fine.

The one you describe sounds like the unit Ritter and LRA sell. I've only known AMV to sell the electronic unit so not sure when they stopped stocking what you describe.

I have been in touch with Ashcroft and they have an Australian distributor who is currently out of stock as is the UK.

Awaiting a reply from Australian distributor as to when there may again be stock available from Australia and a Price.

Hopefully this will work out cheaper than the UK price and 55pounds postge.

Not likely. I tried to get it through the Australian Importer but they quoted me, at the time, $890 for the trouble of handling the item. It was far cheaper to order directly. Mate in Club got one off them about 2-3 months ago.

The Australian distibutor contacted me once to say they had no stock but would advise as to price and availability soon, no word for over a month!
Not what I would call good customer service.
Looks like dealing direct is the way to go!

I contacted the Australian distributor for the CDL kit at the end of August and was quoted a price of around $1200 for the actuator, however as mentioned they are out of stock.

Given the Aus $ at the moment it works out much cheaper to order the parts yourself from the UK, about half the cost. I am pretty sure they post international.

I have a 2002 Disco where they removed not only the CDL actuator but also the transfer case internals. I am about to order both the actuator and the diff lock internals for my mine for a little over $1000.

    Cheers,

    CJT
