    td5 exhaust upgrade

Im thinking about an upsized exhaust system for my td5. It currently has been rechipped and Im thinking of also doing a bigger intercooler at some stage, has anyone gone for a 3" exhaust before and seen some improvments.I live in melbourne any recommendations for installers and prices would be great

good 2.5" should be plenty big enough, get a free flowing muffler and ditch the rear resonator.

I did the opposite to Vern's suggestion.

Replaced the main muffler with a straight through piece of pipe, and left the rear resonator. No louder in the cabin, but outside you can hear the turbo whistle very clearly. A tad louder but not a lot.

I did this also and mine is certainly a bit louder/throatier. Very definite whistle and appears to allow turbo to spin up much easier. Incidentally, I did this before I got TRS to swap ECU and there was a difference pre-to-post exhaust mod. The guys at TRS had never heard one sound like mine with exhaust done.

Bronson, my mods are the EGR removed and replaced with a kit made by a mate, the exhaust pipe as mentioned and the TRS ECU. I make sure my air filer is clean/new, looking at a K&N next time and a Safari snorkel. Perfomance is great on/off road and towing my 800kg camper. Fuel use is no worse than when I bought vehicle stock, if anything a little better. I regularly get 9.5 - 10L/100km. Will see what happens when I go from 235/70 tyres to my new 245/75's.....hope this helps.

Do a search here on K&N before you go ahead with that.

Some people are of the opinion that K&N are only good for keeping out large birds and rocks Not for use in dusty conditions.....

Not much dust where I am....pretty damned wet actually. If I ever go outback or dry conditions, I have always run stanard type filters, which would probably still do.
