To me it sounds as though you have a combination of too soft a spring AND the shocks have the wrong valving or they are stuffed.

Pump the polyairs up to 20psi and fully load the car as if your going on the trip, then see how it is.

Forget everything you know about the D1 in regards to your D2, they are completely different to set up.

Get the shocks checked, valving does help alot, mine are Bilstein 50mm extented with 400/100 valving and my springs are a load carrying 380lb, hence the valving to stop them rebounding to quickly.

The Polyairs should help the springs, but pump them up to help with the load, don't be afraid to put 20psi or 30psi in them or even more, I'm pretty sure they are rated to almost 100psi.

Also get the front shocks checked too, they too will be adding to the handling problem.

    Good luck,

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

    Ricey,

No, didn't have to take any weights in, just a quick test drive. Mechanic agreed the it was overly harsh and said they'd re-valve them to soften up that initial part of the stroke to smooth out the ride. But they are still far more controlled than the standard shocks with the bigger hits, i've never hit the bump stops with the bilsteins.

Too true Pedro. I wish I still had the old HQ Wagon...but I'd need my mates TD5 DEFWagon to drag it up the OTL.

I know what you mean,i was totally confused on what to do,my fronts had sagged & also shocks were weeping.Everyone had different ideas, searches on here were helpful.I eventually went with MR's suggestion, which was also suggested by many on here.

I also contemplated a lift, but eventually left it standard height because of low level car parks.

As for the Cape,if i new where we were going,i would let you know, but we havent fully decided yet.We will be there around 2 1/2 weeks.

Last trip i did with my brother in 07,he new the area well as had lived in Weipa for 10yrs,knowledge of the area was very helpful.

This year i am going with my wife,as she has never been there before.Should be fun.

If i dont see you somewhere, have a good trip......
