Help - Looking to buy MY03 TD5
Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I'm considering buying a Discovery 2 and have spent the last few hours looking through AULRO. The particular vehicle I'm considering is a 2002 MY03 TD5 Auto. It has 140,000 kms on the clock and has had 2 owners. I already know this car has twice had problems with leaking fuel lines and has been temporarily repaired while waiting for new parts from the UK to permanently fix the issue. I've been told this has been a common issue but don't seem to be able to find much specific info on the problem. I haven't actually looked at the car yet but before I do I'd be grateful if people in the know could advise me on specifics of what to check or look for. Naturally I'll be doing the usual checks applicable to any car such as service history etc.
Any other info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have previously owned a 100% reliable 100 series cruiser and am a bit nervous about the reliability of a Disco. Should I be?
Cheers.

The 100 series is a good car, I have a friend with one; however, there is no way I'd swap my Disco for one.
I'm not sure on the leaking fuel lines... I have experienced a leaking fuel regulator block, not really a big problem and I'm surprised that parts have to come from the UK for this.
Mine is the 2002MY (just before yours) and I think nearly all the big issues had been sorted for the update model (MY03). The ABS module can be a source for some headaches. (Shuttle valve errors mean you may need to rebuild the ABS module before too long)
Mine has been an exceptional car. The problems I have had are -
- Oil in the ECU injector wiring harness,
- Leaking fuel block,
- Front-left ABS sensor,
- Viscous fan coupling.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Waz

what he said ^^^^^
it will be the fuel reg thats leaking, very common, do a search for that.
i have a 2003 D2 HSE TD5 auto i bought about 4 weeks ago, it has 160thou on the clock and has had the following done
injector harness replaced (chasing a ruff idle fault...ended up being a dirty MAF!)
air lines replaced to the rear air bags.
and 4 sets of front discs and pads
the key is to know the cars service history..the one i bought has not missed any services its whole life and has been really well looked after.
if the one you are looking at is the same, i wouldnt hesitate a bit.
cheers phil
