General Tyre Grabber AT2 255/55/18 109H or Nitto Terragrapler 255/55/18 109S
I have just purchased a 2002 Discovery ES with the 18" rims and 255/55/18 tyres. I am looking at upgrading to a more agressive tyre in either a 255/55/18 or 255/65/16 or similar as in QLD I can not change the tyre size by more than +15mm.
Any opinions on the General Tyre Grabber AT2 255/55/18 109H and Nitto Terragrapler 255/55/18 109S would be appreciated.
Pictures attached.

Got 255/55/R18 AT2's on mine, awesome so far in every situation except really deep mud, but they are only AT's, so thats expected.
Know 2 people who have 40,000 miles out of a set with on and off road use.

Hello
I bought one of the first sets of 18 inch AT2's for my D2 and covered 38,000 with them. I could'nt fault them, as UP says they're brilliant in everything but deep mud, possibly due to the width..
The only thing I would say is that they get harder as they wear out (like overpriced BFG'S DO). I changed them because they were 5 years old and were starting to get loads of small surface cracks in the base of the treads.
So what did I replace my 255/55 x18 AT2's with?
255/60x16 AT2'S.. They look superb!!!

How did you go with the low sidewalls on the 18" rims, a lot of the driving offroad that I was looking at doing is beach etc.
How did you go airing down or did not worry about given the relatively large width these tyres already have?
I also looking at a set of Simex Extreme Trekker 2 in a 29x7.5x16 as an offraod mud and play tyre however there load rating is too low, are there any others with a load rating high enough for a disco 2?

Over here 'they' recommend that you run ATs at around 34 psi on the front and 36 on the rear. Even at these pressures the sidewalls are bulging slightly so I have never let them down.
If I am going on a blast up the Motorway I will increase the rears to around 40 ish. When the tyres were taken off they were worn flat across and still had around 5mm left.
We have a beach about an hour from us we visit regularly and at road pressures they still ride nicely on top of the sand.
I believe someone who posted earlier may have had sidewall issues while off roading though..
I was conscious of the low profile though, which is why I went for a taller one this time...

Thanks for the info, I noticed the sidewalls bulge a fair bit. I just did my 600km run up north for work and run them at 300kpa/34psi which seemed good on the smooth stuff but a bit rough when the road got worse.
I was looking in the Land Rover manual that came with the car and the recommended pressures listed are for all tyres whether they are a 16" or 18".
Tyre pressure:
No load Front: 190kpa/28psi
Rear: 260kpa/38psi
Full load Front: 190kpa/28psi
Rear: 320kpa/46psi
The rears seem ok at these pressures but the fronts seem a bit low, I know the tyres are rated to 50psi max.
I will put the pressures back down to what the manual recommends and see how that goes.
Thanks again.
