5 years later and still there are bloody idiots who don't pay attention to what they are doing at the pumps on a Saturday afternoon...

I had exactly the same problem in the first week I owned my td5. Some smartarse switched the nozzels on the pumps.
I found out when I got to the desk to pay for my $125.00 worth of PREMIUM UNLEADED PETROL! drove off the pump shut down and removed the carpet from over the tank and unscrewed the plate over the tank.Removed the pipes off the tank after taking a photo on my phone and removed the pump.
Syphoned out the full tank of petrol and threw it in the old oil tank of the service station.
When you put the pump back in it is important to take the rubber gasket which in my case was still on the pump cylinder and place it on the tank opening lip. Do it the other way round and it will leak. ( How do I know)!!!
Reverse order to replace and replace with diesel.
Makes for an expensive refill doesen't it.
    Regards Nick.

Would the two mix? Or would the petrol sit at the top?

Go to Coles/K-mart and buy a 4 litre of their home brand engine oil and pour it in. No other treatment necessary.

Read my text to find out how it happened. ( The clue could be in the fact that some one had switched the nozzels over)

I think the point is, if you removed the unleaded nozzle from the diesel bowser, the pump for the diesel would be running, and not the unleaded one.

Thus, it shouldn't be possible to have the correct nozzle in your hand (diesel) and the incorrect fuel delivery pump running.

If you have pumps like this:

Then you could mix up the pump handles and not notice. The fuel is delivered from the same unit, no matter what fuel you pump.

Is that not how it could happen?
