does it run an oxygen sensor on each bank?
Hello all;
2002 V8 auto, 125,000kms. Have just replaced my plugs and noticed that the passenger side plugs were running rich, and the drivers side was running lean. One plug on passenger side was actually damp after sitting for 1/2 hour after turning off engine.
Whilst exhaust smells quite fuelly, haven't noticed anything to suggest that engine is running roughly or unevenly.
First time I have pulled the plugs, so have not previously compared bank to bank. Replaced leads 5,000kms ago after one lead became biodegradable and crumbled apart, so think can rule lead issues out.
Is this Land Rover 'normal', or any thoughts on where I should start looking for potential issues?
Thanks!

does it run an oxygen sensor on each bank?
Yer there are 2x 02 sensors on the Aus spec V8 (one on each bank before the Cats) and 4x on the North American versions (2x more after the Cats)
I reckon it will be oxygen sensor, but plugging in a generic OBD2 scanner will confirm this for you.
Just out of curiosity are your rocker cover gaskets leaking? Because the drivers side O2 sensor connector plug is on the firewall directly behind the rocker cover and fills up with oil!
Just to confirm this, this is exactly the same issue I currently have with mine (black plugs on one bank, strong petrol smell, but running sweet as a nut). Very black plugs on passenger side, fine on drivers side. I too had the leaky rocker cover issue (now fixed) and the connector plug and 02 sensor were caked in oil. My OBD-II reader states a fault with the 02 sensor. Needs to be replaced. She's running very smooth, but fuel consumption is way down on what it should be.

Interesting about the rocker cover, will check. I do have an oil leak somehwere, just havent been able to trace as yet, fortnight ago hot washed engine to make the leak more visible when it returns.
Did have the throttle body water heater leaking over the rocker cover and down the back of the engine recently so possible this could also have caused the issue? Have since removed and re-routed the plumbing.
Where is the best place to source a sensor from and whats approximate $$$?
Thanks!

I bought mine from Range-Rov going from memory it was about $160
Thanks for the advise. Checked the oxygen sensors yesterday, oil on the drivers side plug, but not on the passenger side (the rich side).
Will get myself an OBD2 reader and see if that gives any clues.
