if the key wont turn the ign barrel then the barrel is kaput, if the key turns the barrel and nothing happens ide replace the battery in the remote.

have you tried the spare keys and remote?

I'm pretty shore we experianced a similar problem with a mates v8 d2 after replacing the airbags with new suspension, the door would open and the alarm would sound but the engine wouldn't turn over
After alot of stuffing around we phoned a fiend and he said to press the re-set button in the engine bay mounted on the fire wall, this worked

fob batteries are cheap available everywhere and easy to replace,, I do mine on a yearly basis now,,,

has it set the alarm off yet?,,, dont be under the bonnet when THAT happens---

Phils right,, the key SHOULD turn the lock regardless of whether the car starts from it,,

Sounds like a security code issue, you'll need to find your cars security code and the steps to reset it, it's done using the key, best you find someone to show you how to do it too, Justin Cooper is down your way and from all accounts a very good Landy mechanic.

thankyou to everyone for there suggestions. We replaced the car battery and fob battery when we brought the vehicle. Just as a precautionary measure nothing worse than a flat battery in an auto lol.

The issue has been temporaroliy fixed we will need a new ignition but as a temporary fix (I am embarrassed to say) a spray of wd 40 fixed the problem (after many hours of web searching I typed the whole problem into search bar and viola) seems alot of uk drivers have experienced the same problem
