fly by wire throttle & potentiometer replacement

Hey guys, has anyone had problems with the fly by wire throttle that causes a splutter under load or acceleration? Happens mainly at low revs and under 2k revs, feels like a big amount of empty throttle when the problem happens, very dangerous at intersections cause you're left with noting.

I've heard replacing the potentiometer will solve the problem. Has anyone been down this path? if so, how much?

One way to test if it is the throttle pot is to set the cruise control for say 50km/h, slow down to 40 and then resume the cruise.
If it still does what you describe, it's something more complicated.
If you know someone with a nanocom, you will have a bunch of faults logged along the lines of "user input error" (or something similar, can't remember the exact wording)

Could this also be the waste gate? I tried the cruise last night, i think i still felt the "miss" in the throttle response.

Couple of things i'm thinking it could be.

    1. Fly by Wire Throttle
    2. Waste gate
    3. MAF

The check engine light will be on and the engine will only idle if there's a fault with the throttle position sensor.

Has the connector at the front of the head been checked for oil? Oil seeping down the harness to the ecu and various sensors can cause all sorts of problems.

Try cleaning the MAF and the sensor in the airbox with electrical contact cleaner or similar. Throttle problems from the sensor in the airbox can develop very quickly and cause extremely bad driveability.

Ok, good suggestions, will try a few of these things. Can someone direct me to the MAF and what i'm looking for?

The MAF is the air flow sensor and is located between the airbox and the turbo inlet. One screw clamp on the turbo hose and 2 clips on the airbox lid, and disconnect the electrical plug. Best not to touch the wires inside as they are easily damaged.

Nanocom reports injector 4 fault. Took it for a drive, brought it back, tested again, fault was gone. Could be a little bit of oil getting through on the injectors, so that might be worth a look at incase a brace needs to be replaced.

Seperate to that, i'm going to disconnect the MAF the next time the problem comes up, if it goes away straght after? we know where it's coming from. MIght be worth a replacement anyway.

Cap., Once it does the "hesitation" does it keep running rough until you turn it off, then restart?
If so, my money's on oil in the injector harness.
I replaced mine not long ago, I was getting rough running at random times and injector 3 faults. Easy job, not too expensive ($110) + about 45 mins.

Nah it's not that it's running so much rough, its that it hits a huge blank spot of empty throttle, usually at around 1900rpm just before it comes onto boost, then when it clears after about 5 seconds you get an almighty shove along when it comes onto boost.

Having empty throttle is dangerous especially when crossing intersections, you accelerate to go and nothing happens, it leaves you in the middle of nowhere for about 5 seconds then shoots off.

I was kind pinning my hopes on it being the MAF as it's easier to get to, but if it's the harness, TR auto can take the covers off and replace it pretty easily.
