    I got one!!!!

    Hey Guys

    First let me say thanks for all the advice on buying my first Disco.

    Secondly I will be picking up a 2000 model Series II 00.5MY with only 70000kms, perfect service history and no mods other than an ARB bull bar, IPF driving lights and CB .... hell, it's still got the original tyres on it!

    So I have a few questions.

    What is the first things I should do to it.

    and what are the first mods I should make? Keeping in mind that it will only be towing a camper trailer and doing some beach work.

    CDL actuator?
    Lift?
    Dual battery?

    congrats mate

    with 9 yo tyres i'd be starting there first.

    the decision as to which tyre will probably take as long as finding the car

    btw a cargo barrier is a good investment as well

    Congrats on your purchase.
    As already mentioned, put tyres and suspension first on your list of things to do. The dual battery system is also very handy, especially seeing as you will be towing a camper.

    On the mechanical side of things, have a look at the front drive shaft whether it has been rebuilt with greasable uni's or not. They came out with sealed uni's that are prone to rust as the a/c drains onto the double cardon joint. You do not want these uni's failing at high rpm, so it is a worthwhile investment to get them replaced with geasable ones.

    The CDL actuator is also a must in my opinion, your vehicle has it in the transfer case already, it just needs the lever for it. The CDL provides much more control on all kinds of surfaces and is also very handy in soft sand.

    Yeah well done.
    Sounds perfect for what you want.
    I would just keep it the way it is.
    Tyres are the go and perhaps some springs with 50mm lift and you are set by the sound of it.

    V8 or 5cylinder?

    if V8 - make sure cooling system is in top nick. Probably replace the radiator and all hoses as it's 9yrs old.

    Td5 - EGR removal kit and buy a nanocom

    These are the photos from the website ... I'll need to swap my EMU plates on as soon as I pick her up.

    I'm not sure if any of those problem areas have been addressed .... but it has been serviced by Alto Alexandria all her life .....

    What size tyres are standard on this model, what size can I legally go up to?

    What advantages will I get from a dual battery set-up?

    and (sorry to be a pain) where can I get rubber floor mats and a boot liner to suit [that's not going to cost as much as a genuine set]?

    That's a beaut!

    I think the standard tyres are 235/75R16. In NSW, with a 50mm lift, I think you can go to 265/75R16, but they may suck a bit of power.... then you'll want a chip... intercooler.... 3" exhaust...

    Seriously, mods are very personal. Maybe drive it for a while and prioritise. It's easy for us to spend your money.

    Dual battery systems are worth their weight in gold (and they are a bit heavy); especially if you are camping. I run a fridge and worklight off mine and the system also charges the camper battery. I love the security of having my cranking battery isolated.

    For floor mats, if money is an issue, try a swimming supply shop, (up here we have a mob called Clark Rubber). Make a template the correct size and shape out of cardboard, cut out a piece of rubber mat and glue a 20mm strip around the edge as a lip. Just an idea.
