    Exhuast Upgrade

Gday All, been reading about some big improvements in the 3.0l patrol from upgrading the exhuast system..Was wondering if anyone has done it to thier TD5..If so were the results what you expected? Better or Worse?
Which system did you use.I know its a question with plenty of options but would think you would need to dyno after fitment to adjust the wastegate etc to get the real benifit.
    Thanks and Cheers Ean

I am looking to do the same thing. I found on the internet a couple of options,

    1 TD5 Alive does a 2 1/2" bore full stainless TD5 Alive Ltd Exhausts

2 Griffin does a 3" bore also full stainless Land Rover, TD5, Discovery, 300 TDi Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems | Griffin Performance

3 Safari also does a 3" bore in stainless Safari Performance Exhaust

I am waiting for Safari to come back with a price. The price for the other two are on the web site

Has anybody had any experience with any of these exhausts?

    Thanks

Sorry if am stealing your thread

local exhaust shop put a 3" mandrel bent custom made system with a single resonator at rear on for me for under $800 fitted drive in drive out. sounds nice, goes a bit better, and uses less fuel. definately breathes better

    Ean,

TD5Alive state "Postage for up to 20Kg will be £130. The 90 exhaust weighs about 18.5kg, then packaging"

    1 AUD = 0.543920 GBP

so its not bad at the moment.

    Ean,
What type of flex joint does your vehicle have? I replaced the belows-type on my my03 with a wire typre one because it was rattling on its internal stretch limiter and discovered the old joint has a huge restriction - almost 50%.

I also previously replaced the main muffler with a straight through type, not for performance reasons although that was to be a bonus but feel it made a difference.

I understand this 3" system with Vortex muffler is supposed to be very good, and it drops EGT's. I think its an Aussie system.

    Gday Graeme,
Wish I could tell you, but im at sea for the next 10 weeks so will have to wait till I get back to land and check.I have a 2001 model so not sure, but where did you source your parts?
I read about the system that Slunnie mentions and with the EGT bdrop I thought that you would need to dyno the car to get Max benifit, thru adjusting boost etc to get it back to factory EGT's
I would much rather spend my $$$ on an Aussie system, although the S/S systems from UK look good, but being in an industry that competes again imported products, I like to support local.
    Thanks for the reply's

It depends on what you are after in the long run.

I had the centre muffler on my '04 D2a TD5 replaced with a free flowing Vortex muffler.

No real increase in noise, but the power and economy has improved. The rest of the exhaust was fine, but I want to do the flex joint soon.

All up, it was just under $200 drive in, drive out.

On my Disco, not facelifted but euro3 td5,i replaced the downpipe with a de-cat one,big improvement, the turbo spins faster from low revs.
I was thinking of removing the center muffler completely, from my previous gas engined disco, that would be catastrophic for low rev torque, but for the td5 i think it will help with the exaust gas flow.
Has anybody tried this before instaling a big bore system,or this is the only way to go(big bore etc)?
