    Sorry another MAF question

Unplugged the MAF sensor and took it for a spin and no more surging between 3000-3500. My question is, is it safe to drive with it unplugged until I get a new one in a week or so?

I would think so in the absence of a working MAF a default value is used for the fuelling. Mine was bad for ages before I noticed = same as unplugged and to be honest didn't make a huge amount of difference - but pretty stock standard D2 so maybe that's why

You will get increased EGT's with the default map. Don't go towing or thrashing it without the EGT or you may damage it.

I had mine unplugged for at least a year without ill effects.
However its not necessarily the MAF at fault, as unplugging the MAF is detected by the ecu which then changes other parameters. As they aren't cheap, try another MAF if possible to confirm that the problem is fixed.

Ive recently had poor performance that has progressively got worse, particularly on hills when the Disco was already 70kph+.
Did a lot of research and stuffing around, got a 'generic scan' which showed oxygen sensor faults, and little birdies told me that this was most likely a MAF sensor stuff up.
The UK ebay site was golddirt - got a new MAF sensor posted to Oz for $68!!!!
5 minutes to plug it in and the difference is absurd. Id forgotten how punchy the beast could be.

I had mine replaced under warranty, the car is a different beast now, smooth as silk, getting close to 7klms/litre and the cruise control is not hunting anymore.

this is the same one i bought about 2 months ago, it was better than my dead OEM MAF but not as good as being left unplugged.
it made the auto hold gears for too long and made it feel sluggish on pickup. after buying this i found i can get a genuine LR one from the UK for very simmilar money.
the nanocom readings were 40 at idle and 520 under load. the OE ones are closer to 50 and 560.

    cheers phil
