Java Black paint - just curious

    Hi all

According to the paint code (697) on Kim's car, it is Java Black...

However all the sites I've looked at refer to Java Black as a mica or metallic paint.

This one is certainly not - it's a solid colour (and shows no signs of having been resprayed).

So is it Java Black or is it something else... Beluga?
    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

First thing is what vehicle & MY?

I will take it as being in the Discovery2 section that it is a Discovery2.

JAVA Black is certainly a mica/metallic color, its not a flat solid color.
First released on the Discovery2 & P38, then the L322 RR.

If the code on the vehicle says 697, then it is 697.

It just that maybe the vehicle has not had a cut & polish for a while & the clear coat is scratched & faded.

You will find that the clear coat may need some elbow grease to get it back to its original form.

    Oops and thanks!
    Sorry, should have said:
    09/99 D2 (is that MY00 ?)

Interesting! Definitely plated 697, so omg you're right - it's going to need some elbow grease as I'd swear blind it was a solid black!

Seeing as you mention the deteriration of the clear coat there's a familiar "white" patch or two on the roof. Is there anything short of a respray that can arrest/restore these areas? (I know they won't be perfect).

    Cheers
    Mike

    G'day Stuuu
Yeah, I saw that and it's what got me asking the question about "metallic or not".
Looks like we'll have to try the cut & polish on a panel this weekend and see if we can bring up the 'mica'

Be very careful Java Black has a clear coat and if you use the wrong polish you will put swirl marks in the surface and on a sunny day it will look crap. I have seen one done at a car yard.

Turtle make a black polish that is very good for hiding the scratches & keeping the car looking good.
It comes with a lipstick type filler for deeper scratches & chips.

It also brings the exterior rubbers back to almost new appearance.

The other advantage is that you don't get the white residue of traditional polishes.

I have just sold my Java Black TD5 so have experience in looking after them.

    Regards

    Chuck
