    Forgot...

I forgot to mention tyres- It's being sold with a roadworthy but on my estimation the 2 front tyres won't pass. So it's kind of an urgent question as the decision has to be made within a day or three- what tyres?

I'm planning to head around Oz for 12 months next year- and do a fair bit of off roading and touring. I also do a fair bit of high country stuff when I'm hunting/fishing in Vic. What do i go for? All terrains? Muddies? I'm gonna post this question as a thread on the D2 channel..

when i bought my D2a i was looking for a diesel but they were about $10k more than i wanted to spend. so did a few calculations with a V8, it worked out that if the TD5 was $10k dearer that i would have to keep it for about 15 years to break even over buying a V8 ,'cause that $10k goes a long way towards fuel for the big fella, (to which i have named Thirston, just because if you give him a boot full of right foot, that's exactly what he gets a thirst on for fuel) he does about 17-18 L/100 around town ,13L/100 on the highway
Thanks Big T for the figures... The main consideration in wanting a diesel was range. As I said, I'm planning to do some remote stuff. I'm a teacher actually and planning to do some work in these areas as i travel around- so might be there for substantial periods and not passing through. The best advice I had wad diesel was the go for this

$10,000 difference is going it a bit mate. More like $5,000 or 6,000 max on average in the used market. I reckon you'd save about $1200/1300 per year doing an average 20,000 ks p/yr. Still, it's a valid argument. I'm doing just that at the minute and it's probably the range that will swing me over. The only other thing is, you could go for a lone ranger tank at about $1300 but that does alter the sums.

Depends on individual deals and needs I suppose

    Hi
$10,000 was the difference between the 2 cars on offer at the time of purchase . V8 with 107 k $17500 or Td5 with 90k $28,000 both 2003 models,i had a 2002 Td5 couple of years back, got fed up with it not starting when it felt like it & no one could find the prob, so lost my cool with it ,traded on a japper, but the urge was still there,so the V8 won cause i didn't have the extra 10 grand.
as long as your happy , doesn't matter!!!!
