Little bit of info. in this thread on temperatures.

Greetings Ladies and Gents,
I recently had an incidentet with my temperature gauge rising through the red and giving all sorts of crazy readings. Long story short it turned out to be the sender unit as opposed to an actual over heat situation (luckily).
From comments on the forum, I purchased a TM2 Watchdog and mounted the sensor on the block.
Although there are plenty of threads regarding sensors, I cant find any threads where members have recorded what temps they are running.
In order to benchmark my engine (and ensure I am not running hot) could members with similiar models/engines share their running temperatures please?
My engine ('99 D2 V8 Auto Box - Gas inject) is running about 86c at 60km'h with ambient temp at around 20c. At idle it drops to around 81c.
Thanks

Where did you mount the temperature sender on the block? I am running an EMS2 (madman, South African made) device, and the sender is currently sitting on the pipe going to the heater matrix from the engine. The temperature there is mostly around 75 degrees Celsius.
Hi Phuma,
I found a 'stray' bolt on the left hand side of the engine block, its about 2 inches above the sump line and near the engine mount, so its hard up against the block.
Now the ambient temp is up around the 28c mark, I took it for a run out on the highway, put the aircon on and it tipped 90c. It doesn't seem to be under stress. so i am guessing this is the normal temp for my car (with the sensor in that position).
I am no expert but I guess temperatures may vary quite a bit from heads to block to thermo housing etc. I just wish there was an "average" to work on.
I have read that someones Toyo hilux gets as high as 106c and thats norm for him...
I am thinking the best bet is to just go on my readings as its running OK and set the alarm to suit my temps ???
Thanks
