    Angry Could push it faster

Hi, recently have an intermitent problem with my 2002 Td5. The performance below 2300 revs is pathetic, sometimes I think its not going to get there. Once the turbo kicks in its off like a rocket. The next time i drive the car it might be back to normal (or maybe not). So before poking around I thought I'd ask if anyone has had the same problem and got any ideas. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Hi Shenanigans Ride,

This sounds very much like what mine used to do prior to our diagnosis that the turbo modulator was faulty. My car was a pain in the rear end to get going, especially in 1st and 2nd (manual TD5 disco) but once in the higher gears ran fine with turbo humming along quite fine. It was very intermittent days no problem then days with problem. Usually when SWSBO was driving the car.

I would bet my bottom dollar that you have the same fault modulator.

I think the part was about $50 - $100 from Rick's 4x4 at Nerang. They will post it to you if you would like, it will take about 2 days if they haven't got it on the shelf.

All the best. You can send me a MP if you want.

    Tony

yep, my bet is the turbo wastegate valve - had the same thing a few years ago - it's cheap - looks like something you'd find in an aquarium

    OR injector harness

I had those exact symptoms with mine when I had oil in my injector harness. Pullout the ecu, and check the red connector to see if theres any oil in it.

Interesting you mention this, I've been thinking mine is a bit "off"... Replaced delaminating turbo hoses and leaking exhaust manifold but still not what I'd expect from 140kw chip...I'll be investigating!

A PM is a personal message you can send to members on this site.
Ricks is a parts supplier as well as service, have heard really good things about them, they should do a great job.

    Smile

Found that two of the turbo hoses had collapsed inside so fitted a new set and the cars going better than it has for quite a while. Hopefully then that is the problem solved. To be on the safe side I did check everything else suggested and found no other issues. I remember reading somewhere that silicone hoses are the long term answer, anyone know a good supplier here, might as well fit them now and keep the rubber ones as spares.
Thanks for all your help, Bernard
