    Disco 2 Will Not Start

I just had a look in the rave manual. It seems as if it is the crank sensor that has failed. I do however read in the manual the following:

"Whenever a new crankshaft position sensor is fitted or the flywheel is removed, the adaptive values will have to be reset, using TestBook."

If I replace the sensor, must I put it on testbook before the engine will start?

I hope I will be able to get a sensor at my local spares shop.

Its not very likely that the crankshaft position sensor sensor has failed, as the ones in the TD5 seem to be very reliable . It could be loose or the leads not properly connected though. Without having replaced one but knowing how they work, I suspect a replacement sensor would work well enough to run the engine but could possibly cause difficult starting.

Have you checked for oil at the ecu connectors? Oil at the ecu is a common cause for all sorts of problems as lots of sensor wires are in the same connector as the injector wires, down which the oil travels.

the engine will start with a new sensor without puting it on t4,

if you cheak everything and its all ok,

if its a man dose it push start ok?

if it dose push start ok, but wont start on the startermotor, the starter motor has failed,, even tho the starter still terns the engine ok it is making a electro field(as the cps and the starter are very close) and stuffing up the sensor and wont fire the engine, wev had 2 td5s with this prob now, and yes it took days to work that out

the sensors are not a show stopper once replaced.

If you get one that dies and stops the engine once youve replaced it the engine will go again (ditto for the injectors) but wont be perfect. The specific recoding with the testbook or equivelent just nets the last little bit of performance/economy out of the engine.
