Mine done this a couple of times too (230,000ks) once it was the immoblizer, the other was I have know bloody idea
Both times no faults logged
Must be a D2 thing

Twice recently my 2002 TD5 Disco would not start on first attempt, turns over fine, seems to be starved of fuel - no faults logged according to my Nanocom.
Both times it has started on about the fourth attempt after turning ignition fully off and back on. I can hear the fuel pump running - its not making any unusual noises. Can't see any fuel leaks and its running well after it starts.
Is my fuel pump possibly on the way out? (approx 150K Kms)

Any leaks around the fuel reg or filter?
Mine's done that once as well ... 2004 D2a 120,000km ... however, I did notice the immobilizer light was still flashing on the instrument cluster after unlocking the D2 (but was not yet up to speed with the D2's systems so didn't twig to the flashing red light at first).
Re-Lock car, arm alarm (wait for fast red flashes to switch to slow flashes) , unlock and MAKE SURE red light NOT flashing, then start.
Hope that helps! Did for me
Kev..
Did you see the fuel filter moisture warning light stay on?
Even if you didn`t,take off the connection on the fuel filter and give it a good clean.
this can cause this to happen if the circuit thinks there is water in the filter.
You say you changed the filter recently, has this been happening since?
D2 electics are such fun!!!!

I had a similar problem when I first bought my 2002 TD5. It would have problems starting but only when the fuel was low in the tank. Turns out it was the fuel pump which was on the way out (at around only 50000km). Fixed with a new fuel pump.
I had a problem like that a few times, 99 TD5, i think the problem for me (besides owning a Discovery) was I let go of the key too quickly before it fired, then when I tried again it wouldnt start. let it sit for a few mins then off she goes. Its happened about 3-4 times & only when i have let it go by accident.
