Timing Case Seal??? TD5
g'day all,
whilst doing an oil change on the weekend i found a leak which appears to be coming from the timing case (looking at rave?). the big pulley at the bottom of the engine that the belt goes around.
question is is it a big job to change or should it be fairly easy (cheap) for the mechanic to retify.
appreciate your response.
cheers

Mate its not 5 minutes.
If youve checked RAVE you know the radiator/ intercooler/fan etc has to come out.
Consider a radiator and intercooler flush while theyre out. New belt, coolant and hoses might be worthwhile (depending on ks etc) while you are at it, also new coolant going back in.
A LR mechanic should do it quicker than yourself, but if it were me I would be allowing myself the whole day if I had all the bits on hand.
Cheers

G'day Yorkie,
Have a read of these two recent threads.
The harmonic balancer can be removed without doing the radiator, tight but can be done.
Fitting the new seal would be the hard bit as not much room to "tap" it in.

Feel free to PM me if you feel the need.
Um, thinking about this some thing else to check is the return line from the vachume pump, it may be leaking down on to the pulley.
Guys,..Has anyone done the seal this way???
Cheers, Kyle.
