When should D2 shockies be replaced

I read on forum suggestions for best shockies for D2. I was wondering when original shocks should be replaced. I have 185K on my 2000 model TD5 & still running the originals. Neither LR or independant repairer have mentioned that they need replacing when having vehicle serviced. Surely they must be getting to end of useful life.
I tow a 5.65M boat (approx 2000Kg) as well as Modcon camper (up to 1200Kg). Should I be looking at upgraded shockies & coils? If so any recommendations appreciated.
    Cheers..B

    Hi Bruiser,

There is not a magic number for shockies because it is relative to terrain and loads rather than an average distance.
Usually after giving the vehicle a good bounce, more than 1 and half bounces before stoping is worn out shocks, but, this is not a definitive test. Shocks can be fine on good sealed roads because of the limited work done until hitting some rougher roads.
Corrugated roads will usually let you know pretty quick when your shocks are on the way out, with the ride/ handling becoming quite vague after a good workout.

With your kms and loads carried you would be justified in replacing these components especially if youre looking for an excuse to lift it

Products are excellent, prices are excellent and Shane actually knows his stuff and wont talk down to you because you own a Landy.

    Cheers

Shocks will leak oil out of the seals if they are bust, ever gas shockies will leave a bit of an oil leak. And another test is that you should notice the bounce getting quite bad.

Probably the day after it left the showroom!! Mine is a 99 TD5 with 120k, SLS & I only just changed mine over & what a difference. Changed the front springs over as well as they were a few cm's from the bump stops. I also put SLS spacers to lift the rear up. I suppose it depends what the car is used for & how quickly they are worn. Yours I would do now, it will feel like driving a new car.

    Hi Bruiser
EASY to check.See how easy it is to "bounce" the vehicle at both the front and rear by hand.If its really soft and bounces easy, the shocks are stuffed. If its still firm they are OK.Try a few others you see in carparks to compare yours too.May be different at the rear if its an airbag model(look for the extra back seat chairs)
All depends on how much rough roads the vehicle has travelled to how hard the shock has worked till its worn out.

At 70k,my front left shock was leaking,so replaced both fronts & also front coils as they had sagged.Rears,no SLS are still OK.
Mine has done a lot of k's on corrugations.

Noticed today my steering damper is weeping,so i suppose it now needs replacing.

Umm,i used bilstein shocks & King springs, standard height.
