hi mate i cant be sure about your d2 v8 but when the commodores with the gen111 5.7ltr v8`s got piston slap they needed a rebuild it was a common problem with the manuals
Hi all, some advise if u don't mind, piston slap in my D2 V8 is the diagnosis, is there anything at all I can do to minimise the V8 almost sounding like a diesel. Asked about putting the thicker, higher zinc content oil in as previously advised when talking about lifter noise but mechanic says it will make no difference. Any help would be fantastic.
Cheers to all

nope piston slap is terminal. there are no reliable short term fixes that dont involve stripping the engine

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
If you look in the middle of the dash / console area, you will see knob marked "vol", turn it all the way clock wise and then back it off 1/8 of a turn. See how that goes.
Sorry couldnt resist. Hope it doesnt cause you too much heart ache![]()
How many Km has the engine done?
Piston slap is not really a common problem so I would think it's strange for a D2 to suffer from this (unless it has lots of Km under it's belt).
Scott
Not a lot of Km then.
Is the problem only there when the engine is cold?
Scott
Seems to be a little worse when cold but I don't sit and let it warm up before I move, I've been to your better off driving but taking it easy till she gets up to temp which is pretty quick anyways. Still there when it's up to temp but I guess slightly quieter.
Thanks mate![]()
Sure it is not a dropped liner? I think this tends to make more of a ticking than a slapping sound though.
