Just went for chinese, parked, turned off engine. Key would not lock the doors; noting to loose in the car so picked up the dinner put the key in the ignition and it would not turn over. Plenty of voltage, doors will lock with the dash button but not the key. Phoned the wife to come with the spare key, no different. Have left it parked and locked the doors with turning the lock and back home via the wife's car to eat and ponder. Where should I start to look? 1999 TD5 D2 auto.
Thanks alien
makes interesting reading
I plan to go back in the morning when all the little eats places there are shut and see if it will operate. If not I will have to take my ear muffs to block the sound of the alarm and open with the key and roll it back a bit.
Have a look at my post not happy you will neet to pull out the stearing console appart and pull ithe ngance out you will need a few screws and a hammer and punchers to get the shear bolts out then you will be able to start the car with a screw drive you will need to take the ingance to a locksmith and get it fixed look it up there are a number of posting on this subject

Just goes to show how useful aulro can be. I had not known about the radio interference issue so if your useful comments had not come my way I would have spent last night in the shopping car park with multi-meter pliers screwdriver and spanners trying to work it all out (or worse yet sign on to NRMA and let them have a go). Instead got to enjoy the chinese dinner put my feet up and this morning went back and the remote worked and the engine started no problem. Must have been some other car in the park or some business that is shut this morning. Now I know so thanks for your help.
This has happened to me a few times, and seems to occur once or twice a year. You need to look out for overhead high tension wires, power pole transformers and transmitter stations (eg Black Mountain in Canberra). Hadn't heard of Amcal chemists but I'll bear in mind. All you need to do is to use the entry code using your key (turns to right and left etc) and doors will open without alarm and you can start car without having to move it. I carry the 4 digit code in my wallet for such occasions.

Mundy
