    From nothing to everything

Have just started to notice an odd thing with my D2.

From a standing start at traffic lights etc, when I accelerate, there is a split second of having not much power at all, to all of a sudden having plenty, ( or what it should have).
This happens in like 1/2 to 1 second in time but is enough to be noticed. Not turbo lag, but more of an instant thing.
I can only compare it to like an old petrol engine when cold giving a bit of hesitation then away it goes.
This is on an 01 Td5 Auto with an up graded ECU(non flashable), and the only other work Ive done is an EGR bypass, and new silicon hoses.

    Any suggestions ??

Could be the injector loom, mine did the same thing, had nothing down low...as in it would stall very easily in 1st gear. But when it finally got up there it took off. I pulled out the red connector from the ecu to find oil spewing out of it, there was my problem. Used contact cleaner to clean the connectors, replaced the injector loom and it was good as new again.

a dirty or failing MAF will give the same sensation.
appling the accelerator really fast (stabbing it) will cause a driver demand fault and can do the same.

    thanks gents,

I do have oil in the loom at the at the engine cover end which I give a spray with contact cleaner every so often to clean it, so maybe time to check the other end at the ECU, and I do the same with the MAF sensor from time to time, so I will give them another squirt and look at the ECU and see how I go.

CJT...where abouts did you source your new MAF from??

I got mine through Rockhampton Landrover, they got it overnight from a supplier in Sydney.

Not cheap though at $350, but I needed it to get home to Brisbane for the holidays.

That does seem to be about retail price according to a couple of the online sites though. I usually check prices against those listed on LR Automotive and Rover Parts.

they would have got it from karcraft, and if they did they put a $100 mark up on it. karcraft will freight anywhere in oz that day before 10am.

or you can get one from lrseries.com in the uk for around 220aud landed.
    both are genuine.

ps i found this out after i bought a cheap MAF....

    cheers phil

Just a spray every now and then won't clean it properly, I had the exact same fault in mine only a week ago, found oil in the plug at the end of the loom (second time I've had it) gave it a clean with contact cleaner (used the whole can) worked for about 2 days, then the miss appeared again, along with 2 coolent faults and crank agle and CAN fault (communication fault)

    Replaced the loom all gone

Do you have access to a Nanocom, this will tell you if the MAF is knackered, don't buy one till you can check it, because they can be cleaned.

If your stuck and still have the problem by next weekend, we will be in Vic from the 24th and I can check the MAF with our Nanocom for you.

    We will be at Licola.

Thanks for the heads up Baz,

I cleaned it again yesterday, and noticed just how much oil there was up in the actual plug(pin part), and not just the female side of the plug. I can see what you mean about the whole can of spray. I didnt notice this last time I done it.
Will see what it does over the coming days Baz.

How long are you at Licola for, and did you bring the trailer down with you.?
