Thread: D2 Bonnet stuck shut!

Get an assistant to push down on bonnet as you pull the lever.

Failing that, remove the lever in footwell and use multigrips to pull the cable whilst someone presses down on the bonnet..

Otherwise, your going in through the grill

GET A NEW CABLE ASAP

Rathies, If you follow tombies directions and the bonnet opens, check the release catch. It has 3 holes for the cable end to go into to allow for stretch. Put the end into the lowermost hole. If, Like me, it is already there, time for a new cable. Or you can perfect the 'Pull catch several times whilst reaching through the door jamb and hitting the bonnet' technique if you are tight like me. ; ))

P.S. Don't hit the bonnet at the front too hard. I have heard that if you get p'd off and stand on the bullbar and kick the bonnet you will get a very hard to remove dent on the front curve. A spot with steel bracing behind that can't be popped out easily. : (

Here's an idea from left field.

Is teh cable working but you just can't lift the bonnet ? Does it lift at all (slightly) but won't actually open? Does it have the scissor type of bonnet stay - the one which you open up and it holds itself open - as opposed to the post that you manually swing into place ?

I had a scissor type on my Defender and it somehow worked it's way UNDER the air conditioning pipe meaning I couldn't open the bonnet. I had to use tools (and a helpful mate) to disconnect the stay from the bonnet, via the small opening I was able to actually get.

Bonnet stay has been removed and I have a new post type to replace it !

hey guys thanks for the replies. I ended up breaking in through the grill technique (actually i did it by lying down under the car and attacking the plastic cover that goes over the catch).
Turns out the cable stretched and the end popped off the bonnet side as a result.
It was a pain to have such a problem the day before I was meant to go away but at least i was able to open the bonnet with some kind of metal levering object to get me out of trouble. Now I just have to take it in to get a new cable when I have time.
