Auto? If so, did you try it in Nuetral?
Sometimes a coin can get under the cover & stop the lever from going all the way into Park.
Hi All,
Was up at the Sunny coast (Marcus Beach) for the last few days and strangely had a problem starting my 2004 Td5 D2a. Now I have only just recently bought the car and have never had an issue till we got up the coast and funnily enough, now that were back home the problem has disappeared
I have read the Amcal Chem. security systems and RF interference posts, but the cars security functioned perfectly, locking/unlock via remote all worked. Then I put the key in, turn, wait for glow light, turn key fully and nothing bar a slight clicking noise (seemed to come from engine bay).
So I turn the key all the way off, try again and she fires up as normal. Sometimes it required 2 - 3 goes before it started.
But as I said now im home it starts first time every time.....Any ideas what it could have been?
Ps I was very low on diesel when we arrived, dont know if that should matter
Cheers![]()

Possibly in the starter motor contacts.

Mine did the same about once a month but never concerned me till I got it wet(Then it just "clunked",Engaged to starter ring but no turning).
Same prob with my 2000 td5 auto @ 194,000K.
It will definitely "start" happening more often, and at awkward times, and take more "clicks" to engage the starter motor.
I bought my starter solenoid kit from Jagspares & British 4WD (Ebay) for $82.70 total (inc postage & GST).
