    Towing & TD5 Chipped ECU?

I have a 2000 model TD5 manual & since doing intercooler hoses & EGR removal I am generally satisfied with the performance, unless I am towing the camper trailer!

I realise that it is only 2.5 litre, but it does really notice hills & headwinds compared with my previous vehicle, which was a Nissan Terrano 2 ~ 2.7 TDI manual.

Will chipping the ECU make much difference & will exhaust temperatures be a problem?

Also, I live in Traralgon, is there anybody that does ECUs this side of Melbourne, hopefully on an exchange basis, or while I wait?

Are there any exhaust mods that I should look at instead, or as well?

TD5 manual power upgrades are stage 1, 140kw&360nm stage 2, 200kw&490nm the latter option and you wont notice a 3ton load
yes the EGT's will raise, so my recomendation is to fit an EGT gauge and drive off that. it only takes a poofteenth of the accelerator to stabilise the rising temps.
if you have a nanocom or someone near you has one the upgrade file can be emailed to you. no need to remove your ecu and have your car off the road. the whole process can be done in under 20min.

other than that remove the main muffler and or the cat convertor.

    cheers phil
ps PM me for more details.

Thanks for the reply, but I believe my ECU is unable to be 'flashed'.

I did the intercooler & EGR and whilst pickup was better there was no appreciable torque improvement until doing the ECU.
I believe intercooler hoses without intercooler will do very little for performance just improves reliability.
Have now done all 3 (D2 TD5 Man 2000 = same as yours) and you would not believe it is the same car, particularly when towing.
I may well have the "stage1" but was well worth it. I just ordered the best torque option for towing.
I don't have EGT gauge but haven't had any apparent issues - although I haven't pushed the combo in high ambient temps.

I ended up with Davis upgrade - due to older non flashable ECU and ability to pre-order via Ritters then just drive in and they do a swap over on the day. Downside to this convenience is cost (approx $950 fitted drive in/out).

Cheaper alternative is to send your ECU to TRS in SA (or similar), they reprogram and send back - cost under $700 but you still need to reset the ECU to your vehicle nos etc so needs a visit to someone with the gear to connect etc. This can cost if you don't have contacts. And you lose the car for a week while waiting for change-over.

    Hope this is of help,cheers,
    Steve
