    Td5 Fuel Pump Retaining Ring

    What the hell?

Did LR try to reinvent the thread and fail or what??

Don't tighten it enough and it leaks, tighten it too much it pops off!

Sometimes at the servo when filling up!

What's the go, do I need a new gasket so it doesn't leak when only tightened a little bit?

How do I know when to stop tightening?

    Help!!!

this should not be happening i think you need to investigate to see if its cross threaded
i have done 2 pumps in 7 mnths 1 was faulty so got a warranty replacement
and no probs ,,,,i hand tightened it ???are you sure the rubber ring from the last pump was not left in there so you trying to seal two rings together
    cheers kelvin

at some stage the ring has been put on cross threaded and is warped. or the sealing ring is deformed and stopping you from putting it on properly.

This will require further investigation over the weekend!

So hand tight should be enough for it not to leak?

And should it reach a point where it pops off like a milk bottle lid if turned too much?

    Thanks for the help.

    depending on your hand strength

    hand tight is enough.

if, by hand, you can get it to pop off like a milk bottle top thats been over tightened somethings stuffed or wrong.

Thanks, will have to take a closer look.

After a few attempts I thought I had it all good, hand tightened and didn't leak when filled to the top.

However filling it tonight at the servo, started peeing out diesel from underneath so it's obviously popped off again.

    Definitely something wrong!
