Is the anyone around Port Macquarie or Coffs Harbour that has a 7 seater with ACE that would be able to take me for a drive to show me what they can do?

    Cheers

try and get a hold of TJS-7OY on here, he lives in coffs, and i think his D2 is 7seater?
back to the auto v manual (im auto by the way) you mentioned chipping. this will be a deciding factor in the transmission debate also, the auto is limited to 140kw where as the manual can be chipped to 200kw

    cheers phil

As Phil said above I'm in Coffs and have a 7 seater. It has a 2" lift and 32" tyres on it. It has the the Tombie chip in it and the EGR removed. I don't have ACE though but I do have SLS.

Contact me via PM and Im sure we can organise to meet up and I can show you what they are like.

I have a 2000 D2 Td5 auto with just over 200k on the clock and had it for 6 yrs. It has ACE and frankly I think it's one of the best features on the car, absolutely love it. I have had other (non LR) 4WD's previously and regularly drive new/near new standard Prados, LandCruisers, Troopies, Hilux's and Patrols through work....let me assure you that they wallow like pigs in poop in comparison to mine with ACE, especially the Patrols. I have never had the slightest problem with either the ACE or the auto (bugger, hope Murphy isn't reading this)

I was initially concerned with getting auto 4WD and whether it would work properly or be suitable for 4WD in a number of situations, as all my previous 4WDing had been manual. I'm so pleased with this box and it's abilities to be used in any situation, I just don't want to have anything else.

I'm not a mechanic and maybe those that are have had other experiences with "common faults" with this box, I can only relate my personal experiences and to date they have been very good indeed

I don't know where the 120,000 problem came from, but personally I would simply put it down to an urban myth (or jealousy)

    Cheers

    Get the centre diff lock

Good luck with the purchase, I bought one 6 weeks ago and I love it (like you I considered and drove all the others). Just wanted to repeat what others have said about the cdl, it adds a lot. Just back from a high country trip, some greasy tracks after heavy rain, was interesting driving them both with diff locked and unlocked- when locked much more surefooted and traction control hardly ever engaged. Unlocked the tc was working quite hard. Mine is a 2003 td5, coil sprung, no ACE.

You can go over 140kw in the auto. I've got the TD5 auto and have run 165kw.

Its a big call for a person to say yes its seems like a good car and than you pay your bucks and somethings craps itself and what next, the person that checked it gets a dressing.

I be happy to checka vehicle out here locally as a favour but would totally remind them its a glance and just an opinion.

Auctions are often places where most cars are there because they do not sell anywhere else because they are not very good.
Pay peanuts and get monkeys kind of scenario.

That might be the reason for the lack of offers.

Thanks Big Guy. The Disco I am looking for at the auction will be about 100,000km or less. The ones i have found have been repos or end of lease I understand I am taking a risk but if I can save about 5K I have a nice pool to fix anything that might go bang and most of the time it doesn't.

I just need someone to check out the obvios stuff like hemeraging fluids, slugish start up electrics playing up. that sort of stuff.

I have also found that the Auctions arn't always the most acurate in the specs list. So as I am after ACE, CDL and SLS (I think i am catching on to the acronyms) I need somone that can look at a Disco and tell me exactly what I am getting. 5 to 15 hours is also a long way to travel just to check out a car but not to far to buy one.

Of cause I take full responsibility for what I buy
    Cheers

ACE - if fitted the power steering reservoir has two filler compartments
SLS - Air bags and not coil springs in rear
CDL - If its pre 03MY (twin headlights) it's been retro fitted so not sure. Post 2003 they all had it fitted. If it's pre-03MY and only has a Hi/Lo lever that moves front to rear then it doesn't have CDL.
