Rear passenger courtesy light - playing funny buggers
Got a 5-seater. Courtesy light above centre of rear seat has a push button (on-off opposed to a slide switch as per front & rear load area).
Button doesn't work like it should, at least not like I reckon it should or a mate's I've played with. When engine running & doors closed, push the button in and light does nothing (I reckon it should turn on right about now). In fact the only time the button does something is when a door is open and when pushed in, it actually cancels the light, turning it off.
What could be wrong with it? Could it be wired the wrong way so it does the opposite of what it should? Any advise would be good.

Lol....mine has always been a source of amusement. When the door is left open (whilst cleaning car etc) I can turn the other interior lights off by the switches on them, but cannot do it with the one over the back seat...it flickers briefly to show that the button has been pressed but remains on
This applies to whether the engine is running or not. When left on with door open for some time, like all other interior lights, they simply cancel themselves out and turn off by themselves.
When door is closed, that light works independently on/off as it should.
Mine is 2000 D2 and has behaved in that manner for the 6 years I have owned it.
Cheers
Mick

Mick's experience is exactly the same as mine with a '98 series 1 Disco... it seems that some of their finnicky little manufacturing traits were just too good not to pass on to the next model!!

Had the disco 6 months. Good learning curve with what needs attention etc & odd things it does.
Well I've had a good chuckle so far with the responses! Thanks for the two replies (who both have issues as well). I'm feeling somewhat loved again
All I can say is what bizarre wiring...and I'd hate to be an auto elec working on one it seems!

Mine seems to work fine
It must be the one they made a mistake with...........
With all D2's if you leave a door open all the interior lights go off after 20 minites or so,as long as they are all in the auto position, great battery saving feature(other manufacturers should take note)They will not come on again until the ignition is turned on.
But if you switch any interior light on to the manual on mode it will stay on until the battery goes flat, which on a TD5 takes a good few days.
