Kaymar & other rear bars - help needed

Quick question for those of you that have fitted a Kaymar or similar rear bar, with a wheel carrier, to a D2.

When the new bar was fitted, were the existing chassis mounts used, and if so, were they strengthened in any way?

The reason I ask, is when I removed my original rear bar, I see that only 2 of the bolt holes have been used. I intend to use all 4 of the bolts for my new bar, but started wondering how much weight the original mount would take.

By my way of thinking, a steel rear bar, plus spare wheel, plus all the associated hardware, will add up to a reasonable weight.

Also, if anyone has any rough idea as to what their aftermarket, or custom built (don't like the term "home made") weighs, those numbers would be appreciated.

    Thanks heaps

    Gday Basil,
I looked at Kaymar and a few others but didn't like the idea of paying $$$ for a bar that gave me no more than I already have...meaning a single wheel carrier and nothing else..

I am building a dual wheel carrier that will end up at about 60kgs without the wheels..I have used a bracket that bolts to the towbar mount...plus the original mounting of the OE bar..

Look at the pics on the 4x4 intelligence website, they have some good pics of theres..

    cheers Ean

    Thanks Ean.

The 4x4 intelligence one sort of confirms what I was wondering.

I to am building a new bar soon and out of curiosity asked ARB about the weight of their bar sitting on the 200 series cruiser out the front.

Apparently without the spare wheels on there bar is around 80kg, however it has a built in tow bar.
