Question Nows your chance to tell me where to stick it!

Hi all i just got my new highlift jack and i am now deciding where to "stick it" :P

i really like the universal rear door mount brackets that i have seen and they seem like a very cost effective and convenient place to put it. I am however concerned about the longevity of the door hinges with a 32" (soon to be bigger) tire and now the added weight of the jack.

i dont yet have a roof rack so thats out of the question and i dont really want to have it in the cab. It needs to be on the car permanently as the factory bottle jack no longer means a roadside tire change with the 32's and the lift.

My other idea was to make a mount on the slider at the A-pilllar like i have seen on many 40 series cruisers, namely Rootheys "Milo" from 4wd Action magazine. i think that option would be convenient and practical as well as having that expedition look about it. I am however slightly concerned about having a roll over or something with it there.

BUT what i would like to see is what other D2 users are doing, and if i do go with putting it on the rear door, which is ideal, how long will the hinges last?

    cheers

You could bolt it to the bullbar. Seen a number of vehicles in the NT with that arrangement, mightn't be legal elsewhere though.

I think you're on the right track avoiding the rear door option.

I haven't found High lift jacks very useful inthe past. I use an exhurst bag for lifting off road. But you may have good lifting points which I dont.
Breaking it down into parts may help in stowing it.

    2nd that.
Put the main upright bit & handle under the rear seat & the rest can be stored easily in a small container.

Mine's mounted on the wall in my shed.

Complete waste of time mounted permanently on the vehicle, and the LAST thing you should be using for roadside tyre changes.

When I do take it on a trip, I carry it as Scouse has suggested. Would definitely not hang it on the back door, and IMHO - mounting it "Roothy style" next to the "A" pillar would simply not look right on a Disco. On a Defender or a 40 - yes, it suits - but on a Disco would only look like "**** factor" .......but that's just my opinion.

Get an ARB half rack and mount it on the side, thats where I'm gonna put mine. You want a rack anyway, and they come up on ebay all the time.

X2 if you carry lots of gear with you.

Had mine in the back of the Mavrick before I saw the "green light" and it was a pain working around it all the time.

I have just used the sliders in the past and just jacked up that hole side of the car. other then that i gotta carry around a big lump of wood to raise the bottle jack high enough for it to work.

mite just have to wait for a roof rack to come along...

theres a nice TJM one on fleabay at the moment, full length one.
You could always mount up the hi lift between your two roof rails.

just lay it across the rear passenger floor, thats where mine lives when it's not on the kaymar rack mounts............

If I ever get clobbered by it I think it'll be the least of my worries
