Phoned ALL4X4, as they have serviced the car, I could hear them rubbing hands together, they were helpfull, I now have a copy of the RAVE CD just gota work out how to read it, and they quoted me $2500, and talked me thru the "coke bottle test" So I will give that a go first.

Im at Rutherford so Im halfway between Singo and Kotara, I will give Singleton a call in the morning.

Thanks for the support, I have done heads on cars before but this is going to be hard as I have vision problems now at least I have an excuse to finally but that torque wrench, Im just dissappointed as I had just got the funds for my snorkle, Oh well

2 other cars and a house got broken into as well so they might stuff up and get caught, Then I will give Bro-Inlaw a call, They call him "Master of Arms" for some funny reason

Just spoke to Singleton Mazda and they rough quoted 1K for the head gasket job and 600 for the oil cooler job, and said the same about the coke bottle.

Just dropped and flushed all sludge out still heaps in there but water is running clear now wife is going balistic over the crap on her lawn, topping the fluids up and giving it a start so I can at least move it into the drive about 10m so it can be towed or do the job myself.

I also asked about the rumour of them becoming a LR Dealership/Service Center and he said now they had two LR mechanics one of which is the workshop manager they will be in the next few months.

Update, no bubbles from the surge tank no water from exhaust and it hasnt been started in 4 days, no funny sounds when I moved it, idled for about 5 mins running the hose in the tank flushing more crap out.

So now Im suspecting the Oil cooler, does anyone have a guide on pulling it out?
I was told it is a bastard of a job

Ive only done the fuel cooler or warmer what ever it is and it was a PITA it was on dobbos D2 .
Ive heard that the oil cooler is as bad or worse but can be done without any special tools so its prob worth having a shot at it ya self

its not that bad but theres a lot of stuff in the way that you need to shift to get to it in such a way that you wont want to borrow my mechanics cursives book.

BUY THE RAVE........ (you have been warned.....)

So I will have a go flushing the radiator on the weekend and trailer it up there on Monday.

now that you have the rave heres my tip.

look at the engine bay standing in front of the front tyre but backwards of the bumper

identify all the parts that you can see between you and the housing of the cooler.

read the rave sections on removing all of those bits.
