Update, I just followed up to Singleton on the flatbed, I am too sore and sorry for myself as I have 20 stitches in my neck from getting a "Carcenoma" cut out yesterday and wont be able to do much for a week for 2 and wifey wants it fixed like yesterday to go out for Clean up Aust Day.
2nd pic with my father, him mumbling shoulda bought a nissan, he obviously forgot it cost 5k for a new engine in his when it was 6 weeks old.

They still stood by the rough quote of 1k to 1.2k for the head gasket so I will know more tomorrow when they look at it.

    Now for the sad picture

Well just had the phone call, Ouch it was the Oil cooler that went might have it back on the road next Wednesday/Thursday, the cooler had 2 holes in it.

They have ordered the parts and apparently the cooler alone is $800 and will be the only delay, with gaskets/oil/coolant and other misc items with labour OMFG $1710

He said at least it wasnt a blown head or block like they suspected.
With 250k on it I suppose somethings can go wrong that you cant get to with normal servicing.

And people wonder why I drink like a fish!

More later from a very soon to be broke Darren with a slightly to say the least miffed wife.

That's because LR will only sell you the complete cooler not just the insert. Its usually just the insert corrodes and starts to leak oil

get the old cooler out, take it to a hydraulics shop and have them fabricate a pipe with the same fittings at the same distance. Take that to an aircon place and have them wrap it in fin wrap (a wrap that you can put round a copper pipe to turn it into a heat sink) put that back in.

Unit cost should be sub $200. + fitting.

Not very hard to break into.
NRMA serviceman showed me how when I locked my keys in with it running. Once He knew what he was doing took all of 10seconds to have all doors unlocked. PM me if you want to know how he did it. Don't really want to put it on a public forum but if you think about it you should be able to work it out.

Well its back in the drive, they even cleaned it up nice n purdy, running well for the moment, I will upload some pics of the cooler when my phone charges, not what I was expecting it looks like a minature version of an old Oil heater but this one has some holes in it.
They gave me the outer housing as well, dont know what to do with that. Now seeing where it was I doubt I would have been able to do the job
