This is going to hurt! D2 TD5

Well where do I start, bit of a rant and BIG a problem,
    What a **** of a day!

Woke up and wandered out to have my morning coffee in the sun, and saw my drivers door slightly ajar opened the door of the D2 ( still dont know how they got in) and find the inside had been ransacked, GPS gone from under the driver seat, headlining pulled down from where they had tried to get the DVD player out and a stretched UHF handset cable where they had tried to pull the UHF out various little things missing.
Wifies car had suffered the same but all they could find was rubbish and maybe a nebuliser.

Called the (PIL) police info line and reported it.

After calming down (not game to wake wifey) called a mate over and went around the vehicles again, satisfied nothing else missing popped the bonnet to do my weekly fluids check and OH OHHH, notice the coolant reservoir a darker than usual colour, popped the top off and oil exploded out under pressure out of it (insert lots of expletives) checked the dipstick just a little oil on it.

Q 1. Can anyone confirm that yes its probably a head gasket or the Oil cooler, the sludge in the header tank is like a thick black goop.

Q2. Who do I take it to in the Newcastle area or do I go straight to ALL4x4, I have access to a tow car and car trailer suitable.

Q3. would it be ok to drive/move it onto the trailer or winch it.

Q4. Approx how much to do this job

This was just the morning as I was telling wifiey got called into work and spent 5 hours on the phone transfering data to AFB Nellis.

TIA a soon to be broke Dazza

prey for the cooler a pressure test of the cooling system or physical removal of it will give it away.

failing that drop the injector harness plug, flood fill the cooling system and invert a coke bottle full of coolant into the tank. Crank it on the starter and if the bottle jumps about a heap its the headgasket.

DIY bout $500 for the cooler and say $5K for a replacement head(Edit by Pedro The Swift. disregard shamo's post ).

fear the worst and DONT start it winch it.

cant help you in the newcastle area sorry.

$5K for a DIY head gasket? are you kidding? The gasket kit is about only between 1-200 and the head bolts the same and skimming the head is also only about 200! don't know where you got that from?

The surge tank is full of sludge, so I obviously need to drain this first is it as simple as dropping the lower coolant hose and flushing it out then top the oil up ? then try your coke bottle trick?
I cant seem to find any guide on dropping the oil cooler out got any ideas?
    Thanks Darren

    I'm with Shamo.

DIY headgasket should cost you under $1200 using genuine parts. Its also pretty easy to do.

    Good luck.

Geez sorry to hear about all your trouble, you are not alone, I've been in similar strife with my D2, only now can I breath again with it back on the road. I did a headgasket job about 3 months ago, its a fairly straight forward job with some great tutorials on here. I am glad I did mine myself, as I learnt a lot about my engine, and I know everything is right now. I got all the parts, with head bolts etc for about 500bucks and skimming was about 250 with vavle grind. But allow about $1000 all up for other jobs while you are there.

My advice, get the cooling system pressure tested first. Put it on a tow truck, don't risk damaging it further. The pressure test should tell you if its a head gasket, then go from there.

Sorry to hear your woes Bastards steal anything nowadays..

    Question:

Do you 'double press' the lock button when you lock the vehicle up?
It disables the door handles internally etc... so they cannot open the vehicle.

If you dont mind a bit of a drive you can take it to Singleton Mazda. They use to be Land Rover Dealers. The service manager that just started has 15 years of LR experience and is excellent.
