    My new Dormobile arrives tomorrow!

It is a suffix H 2a with original 6 pot, fairey capstan and overdrive, stove etc, running and registered. It has been in storage in SA for some years, and is apparently rust free.

Tomorrow I will see it up close for the first time. Lots of poking around, tidying up and taking pictures on the weekend. Will post a full report then.

The kids are already calling it Dora the Explorer - very excited (so am I).

I love the idea of a register of Aussie Dormobiles - has anyone started one?

I believe Dormobile in the UK have two old Carawagon roof for sale, ask Jim when he gets back off holiday.

Mine still undergoing a conversion, roof fitted and a new style kitchen and double bed coming out of prototype to be fitted in beginning of July, more photos to come of new interior.

These two were at the recent annual British Car Day at Gin Gin in WA ....

At first I thought it was a Vauxhall Viva - but then discovered that it is a Bedford.
    Cheers .........

Bedford Beagle, the commercial variant of the Viva.

    Articles about Carawagons and Dormobiles

    Hello All,

Okay I have been working on the tome all day and all weekend. So I missed going to the Bundaberg Swim-in due to study commitments.
Tonight it got past 8:30 pm, I got bored and I needed a break.
So what to do to unwind? I did some research on Carawagons and Dormobiles to find out some more about their differences.

I found a great site which explains a lot about the history of both Carawagons and Dormobiles and it even features copies of original sales brochures. There is also a link to a carvawagon place that sells replacement weather seals tucked away in the Carawagon information!

They also have an old four wheel drive magazine which compared the differences between the two makes out in the field.

Plus the link has details of different other countries who have had a bash at making camper conversions of Land Rovers and Range Rovers.

There is even a couple of photographs of Ministry of Defence Carawagon versions in full service livery.

    Some links
The really good Main Site with lots of other information not just Dormobile and Carawagons ... Expedition Land Rover site You need to scroll down until you reach this area .... Land Rover Caravans - Dormobile, Carawagon, Park-Ranger, Land-Rover Explorer and X-PANDA-CAB

Now I am not so bored any more and can go to bed dreaming of Land Rovers - happy dreams everyone.

I just did some more research and Dreamin' (Roger) in AULRO under the thread - DORA THE EXPLORER (27th August 2012, 10:13 PM) had already posted up the same site.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Not sure if he is on here. Nice rig - its an early RRC too. (70's).

I have given him "the wave" but no response.
Saw this car last night here in Parkdale, no wave back but then it was dark & raining. Looked to be nice one though.
